Successful Children and Youth Policy Team (SCYPT)

SCYPT Logo

I am proud to serve as a Board liaison to the Successful Children and Youth Policy Team (SCYPT), whose membership includes representatives from Fairfax County Government, Fairfax County Public Schools, and the community. The SCYPT is behind some of the most important initiatives supporting our children and youth. We have led work on promoting racial and social equity ("One Fairfax"), kindergarten readiness, school attendance, and behavioral health. You can learn more about the work of SCYPT and sign up to receive SCYPT agendas and meeting summaries on the Fairfax County website.

Bush Hill Advanced Academic Programs (AAP) Center

During the February 22 Regular Meeting, the School Board approved the recommendation to designate Bush Hill Elementary School as a Level IV Advanced Academic Programs (AAP) Center. I am thrilled to offer this academic program in the Edison HS pyramid. The leadership and instructional staff at Bush Hill ES are equipped and ready to provide a high quality experience for our students.

The following motion was approved:

Approve the establishment of a new Level IV advanced academic center program in fall 2018 at Bush Hill Elementary School, and also adopt the following pupil assignment plan: in fall 2018 Edison-based rising 3rd grade center-eligible students currently assigned to Springfield Estates ES would be assigned to attend the new Bush Hill ES Level IV center. In fall 2019, Edison-based rising 3rd and 4th grade students currently assigned to Springfield Estates will be required to attend Bush Hill’s Level IV center. An additional grade level would be added each year until full implementation of grades 3-6 for the Level IV center at Bush Hill ES in SY 2021-22.
