The Exhibition of Learning

Our annual Exhibition of Learning event is on March 20th and 21st from 8:30 AM to 2:40 PM. We would love to have you join us!!
All freshman and sophomore students will be presenting during through their P.E./health period. Students, including upperclassmen, who are not taking P.E./health will present during their English period. If your child is presenting and you would like to join us, please ask him/her when the presentation is! We ask that visitors check in at the main office as usual, and you do not need to RSVP.
How can I help my freshman or sophomore prepare for the Exhibition of Learning?
The students are preparing for the Exhibition of Learning through their English classes, but you could help your student to feel more comfortable presenting. Ask your student what he or she is planning to present. Listen to your students’ planned talking points. Encourage your student to elaborate and add details. Help him or her anticipate questions that observers may have. Ask to see the visual component of your student’s presentation. Help him or her plan an attractive, well organized visual.

We are so excited to see our students’ presentations this year, as always!

Summer School Information

Summer school information is now available here.  There are several different options through FCPS for summer school:  Credit Recovery (this is for students who fail a required class), Online Campus (online classes with some mandatory in-person meetings), Self-Directed Economics/Personal Finance, and the Madison High School Program (with limited courses).

For online campus classes, registration starts April 30th - June 15th and the classes run June 27th - July 26th.  Please check the website for more details on courses offered and cost.

For self-directed EPF, there are two summer sessions, and registration for both sessions start March 12th.

Session 1: May 1st - June 21st

Session 2: July 2nd- August 1st

Please check the website for more details.  This is a popular option, so we recommend registering sooner than later.

Any student wishing to enroll in Geometry honors, PE 9 or PE 10 at James Madison High School, please see your counselor for more information.

Please note that students do NOT have to enroll in a summer school class.  They can always take a course in the school year for free.

Sports Pre-Participation Physicals for next year

Information also available online.

In preparation for next school year, to participate in sports next school year, your child must have a physical on file dated on or after May 1, 2018, on the new form (Revised February 2017). This includes working out in the weight room, conditioning, “green days” and try outs.
The Oakton High School Athletic Training Program is offering an opportunity for students to receive a sports health screening and pre-participation physical (PPE) on Monday May 14, 2018 from 5:30-8 pm. Our team physicians, as well as a staff of nurses, physical therapists and certified athletic trainers will be on hand to provide a thorough screening. If during the screening or physical, the physicians find something that is questionable to them regarding your child’s health, they may request further evaluation by another physician. We are asking for a minimum donation of $50 in exchange for the PPE. Registration is not open yet, however, to register for a PPE, go to: www.fcps.edu/sports and follow the links for sports physicals. There is also a link for the new form there as well. Walk-ins are also welcome on that evening but we ask for a $60 donation at that time. This physical is good for the entire following school year.
This is the Athletic Training Program’s method of fund raising. All the funds for equipment and supplies are raised at this event. The county provides no funding for any of the supplies or equipment in the athletic training room that is used to take care of our athletes. Your support would be greatly appreciated. You too benefit from this process. Once your child’s VHSL physical form is completed that night, it stays on file at the school, as well as a digital copy is kept on our server, so if you need a copy just email one of the ATCs and we can sent you a copy.
PPE’s are being offered in the same format at every high school in FCPS and are fund raising efforts at those schools as well. If you can not attend the PPEs at Oakton H.S., there may be another local high school offering the opportunity on a date that may be more convenient for you. If you have any questions or concerns, contact Paul Rupp, MS, ATC at prupp@fcps.edu
