Woodson student Emma Wright was recently awarded a National Silver Medal in the 2018 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards program. National medalists will be celebrated at an award sceremony at Carnegie Hall in New York City in June. Select national award winning works will be included in an exhibition in New York, and a traveling exhibition over the coming year.
The Scholastic Art and Writing Awards, presented by the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers, is the largest, longest-running recognition program of its kind in the United States. Established in 1923, the awards have recognized students who have become some of our nation’s most celebrated artists, including Stephen Kin, Sylvia Plath, Richard Avedon, Robert Indiana, Phillip Pearlstein, and Andy Warhol.
International Night
Mark your calendars for the evening of Thursday, April 5th for Woodson's first International Night. The evening will include performances and food samplings from all the different cultures represented here at Woodson.
The Culture Club is hosting this event and needs volunteers to help. They are hoping to have a surplus donation of foods from various ethnic groups to make this a wonderful evening. For more information or to find out how to support this event, please email wtwfortheculture@gmail.com or Lorenzo Simms, club sponsor at lsimms1@fcps.edu.
Prom Dresses
Does
your teen need a prom dress? If so, you're in luck!
Mrs. Sussy Tomer,
Woodson's Parent Liaison, has collected formal dresses to give to
students in need.
Please have your child ask for a pass to stop by Room E108
(across from the attendance office) to pick out a free dress. Mrs. Tomer is in her
office on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9:00am-1:00pm and on Tuesdays
and Thursdays from 10:30am-2:30pm.
Also, if you have a prom/formal dress or party shoes that you are no longer going to use, please bring them to Ms. Tomer so that she can add it to the collection.
Please contact Mrs. Tomer at setomer@fcps.edu or 703-503-4792 if you have
any questions.
2018-2019 Course Registration
We are currently meeting with students to
schedule for the 2018-2019 school year. If you have questions or
concerns about your student’s course selections, please contact your child’s
counselor. Opportunities for course changes will be limited next year. The deadline for changes to next year's course selections is Thursday, May 31st. Many schools have a deadline in March; however, we have extended to the end of May. Please help us keep that deadline by reviewing your child's course requests using SIS ParentVUE at https://sisparent.fcps.edu.
The
third quarter of the academic year is always interesting. Some
students get fatigued with the routines of school, classwork, and
homework. If your child did poorly in the first semester and you
are concerned whether or not he/she can still pass a course for the year,
communicate with your child's teacher.
Order Your Yearbook
This is your last chance to save money on the 2017-2018 Woodson yearbook before it is full price. Visit www.yearbookordercenter.com and use code 5278.
