A Note from Principal Gros
As you may be aware, there is a national walkout scheduled for March 14th. The event will be at 10 a.m. across every time zone and last 17 minutes -- one minute for each of the victims gunned down in the Feb. 14 massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. In order to minimize the loss of instructional time on that day, we are flipping our schedule slightly so that following 2nd chance breakfast, students report to Raider Time instead of 3rd period. After the walkout, all students will begin 3rd period.
We recognize the desire of some students to lend their voice to this important national conversation in this way. We are working with student leaders to conduct an orderly and peaceful observation of these 17 minutes by those students who choose to do so. We encourage you to discuss this with your students and support our request that if students choose to participate, they follow our expectations at all times to ensure everyone's safety. Thank you in advance for your support. Please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns.

Stuart Band Program earns a VA Honor Band Distinction
The Wind Ensemble performed at Lake Braddock on Friday
for their state assessment and earned a superior rating. A superior rating is the highest rating
possible on a national rating scale. Our marching band also received a superior
rating at their state assessment in October and because both groups rated
superior, the band program is once again a Virginia Honor Band. This is the 11th time since the Honor Band
distinction was created in 1982 that Stuart Band has received the award.

and career options.
2018-2019 Course
Registration Information
School counselors have
met individually with their assigned students to assist them in exploring their
academic and postsecondary/career goals. During these meetings, students
reviewed their transcripts and selected their courses for next school year.
Students and parents may access student course requests through SIS Parent
Account. Please review the courses your child selected and contact your child’s
counselor if you notice any errors. Stuart HS staff spends considerable time
assisting students with their selection of appropriate courses. All decisions
regarding staffing, instructional supplies, etc. are made based on those
selections and classes without sufficient enrollment will not be offered. We
will try to accommodate changes up until June 1st but that may not always be
possible due to space availability and schedule changes in the new school year
will not be made during the first weeks of school unless there is an error on
the schedule. Students may be placed in support classes or general education
classes based on end of year progress and assessments. Students who start the
year in honors and IB courses will be required to stay in the course through
the 1st quarter grading period. Courses dropped after 1st
quarter will receive a “WP” or “WF” and a financial penalty will be incurred if
a student drops an IB DP course after the examination registration deadline or
does not complete the official IB assessments. The course offering catalog,
where you can review information on course pre-requisites, descriptions, fee
requirements, and general FCPS information is available on the Stuart HS
website in the Academics section.
The J.E.B. Stuart High School
theater department proudly presents The Little Mermaid!
The Little Mermaid is a
stage musical produced in cooperation with Music Theatre International, and is
based on one of Hans Christian Andersen's most beloved stories and the classic
animated film. Disney's The Little Mermaid is about a mermaid who
dreams of the world above the sea and gives up her voice to find love.
With music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman and Glenn Slater and a
compelling book by Doug Wright, it is a heart-warming, family friendly story
featuring some of the best-known songs from the past 30 years! We hope
you can make it!
