Learning to Work Collaboratively is an Important Portrait of a Graduate and Life Skill
Collaboration is one of FCPS Portrait of a Graduate skills that students at Fairview work on daily from kindergarten through grade 6. Students learn to
- Respect divergent thinking to engage others in thoughtful discussion.
- Demonstrate the ability to work interdependently within a group to promote learning, increase productivity, and achieve common goals.
- Analyze and construct arguments and positions to ensure examination of a full range of viewpoints.
- Seek and use feedback from others to adapt ideas and persist in accomplishing difficult tasks.

Fairview's Annual
READ-A-THON is Coming
April 3 - 10
|
Each spring Fairview sponsors a Read-a-thon to build enthusiasm around reading as well as to raise funds for school equipment, books, and instructional materials. Students keep track of how much they read both at school and at home for an entire week and try to beat the principal for number of minutes read. On the first day of the read-a-thon, students attend a school-wide assembly where we build excitement for the week of reading with dancing, songs, and a special Fairview-made video. This year's video is being produced by our 5th and 6th grade students on the technology team and promises to be fantastic! In addition to reading, students are requested to ask parents, grandparents, and other family and friends for donations. This year we are hoping to purchase over 60 computers and ipads to expand our technology program as we strive for a more blended learning environment which balances teacher lead instruction with student-centered and directed learning.
School Health Clinic Survey
The
Fairfax County Health Department (FCHD) employs school health aides and public
health nurses who provide school health services to the students in Fairfax
County Public Schools (FCPS). To determine the quality of these services, a
survey has been developed by the FCHD to be shared with all parents or
guardians and school staff members who interact with the school health rooms.
This may include principals, school counselors, and main office staff members.
The survey has been approved for distribution by the FCPS’ Internal Survey
Advisory Committee.
Parent Survey (English): https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/FCPSParent2018
Parent Survey (Spanish): https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/2018SpanishP
The survey will take less than five minutes to complete
and will provide the FCHD with valuable information. Your participation
in this important endeavor is appreciated.
Robinson Pyramid Family Night Presents: Fostering Resilience in Anxious and Sensitive Children
April 11 at 7:00 PM at Oak View ES
All parents are invited to attend this free presentation and discussion led by Rachel Bailey, who has presented to FCPS school counselors in the beginning of the school year about this important topic of fostering resiliency in students who exhibit signs of stress and anxiety.
The teachers and ALL staff at Fairview are truly among the most dedicated and hard working folks with whom I have ever had the honor to work. I am grateful to be able to learn from these wonderful people every day. I highly encourage each parent to take a few minutes to submit one or more notes of thanks to Fairview teachers and other staff members for the incredible work they do for the students at Fairview. Your kind notes really can make someone's day! Please use this link to submit your compliments. These compliments are printed out and given to the named staff members as well as hung on our staff compliment bulletin board in the hallway near the front lobby entrance for all to see!
Kindergarten Orientation
Monday, April 16, 2:00 - 4:00 PM
Do you, or someone you know living within Fairview ES boundaries, have a child who will be 5 years old by September 30, 2018? If so, we invite you and your child to Fairview for our Kindergarten Orientation
on Monday, April 16, 2:00-4:00 p.m. It is very important to RSVP for this special event: please call Sarah Fulller, our school's registrar, at (703) 503-3700 so that we can ensure your child's name is on our list.
During the orientation time, you and your child will have opportunities to participate in special PE and music activities, listen to our school librarian read a book in the library, and take a ride through the neighborhood on a school bus. During a short 15 minute period while your child has an opportunity to play and work with a teacher in the kindergarten classroom, you will be asked to register your child. You will need to bring your child's birth certificate, verification of your residency within Fairview boundaries, and the registration and other required forms filled out. Please do not worry if you do not yet have your child's health form and vaccination record; many families wait until summer to visit the doctor for well check-ups. We must have your child's health forms and vaccination records before school begins.

Advanced Academic Level IV Orientation
April 24 - 4:30 - 6:00 PM
|
If your child has been found eligible for Level IV AAP services, please join us for our Fairview local level Advanced Academics orientation. During this afternoon you will hear from Mrs. Moser, our Advanced Academics Coach as well as the teachers and several of their students who are currently teaching and learning in the AAP classes. Students will demonstrate some of the types of learning activities in which they engage in the classroom. Additionally, you will have an opportunity to ask questions directly to administrators, teachers, and students.
Have you activated your SIS Parent Account?
The SIS Parent Account provides you access to view your
child's student information including attendance, report cards, classes,
discipline, health, and school information.
SIS Parent Accounts and FCPS 24-7 Learning accounts use the same
username and password. Additionally,
FCPS is increasingly using on-line applications which will require access
through your SIS Parent Account. For
example, the 2018-2019 academic year will require parents to use their SIS
Parent Account to register for the Language Immersion Program lottery, to submit
a Transfer Application, etc.
Information to activate your SIS Parent Account was sent
by postal mail in August and September.
Parents who have not yet activated their
account will be receiving a letter with your specific activation code and
directions through your youngest child's Wednesday Folder throughout
March. There are approximately 200 parents who
have not yet activated their SIS Parent Account and for whom letters will be
generated. If you have any questions,
please contact Sarah Fuller, Student Information Assistant/Registrar, at
703-503-3703.
