5th grade students enjoyed the Under the Sea program that taught them about life in our oceans, from tiny snails to giant whales. They loved touching the live animals and real animal artifacts.
We take the safety and security of our students and staff
very seriously and are always looking for ways to improve upon current safety
measures. As you know, we have a door security system whereby visitors
must ring the bell in order to request entry into the school.
Effective immediately, all visitors must request entry using
the main entrance door, Door #1. Visitors asking for entry at any other
door will be asked to walk around to the main entrance, Door
#1.
Thank you for your cooperation.

 Over $700 Raised
Thank you to everyone who submitted BoxTops for the Box
Tops Challenge this month. We had 152 submissions, with special thanks to the
6th graders, who turned in over 1500 Box Tops. Thanks to all your
efforts, our school will be getting a check for over $700 to be used for
classroom needs.
The classroom submitting
the most Box Tops, winner of a class party, is Mrs. Ticehurst’s 5th grade class.
Our individual winner of Jump Passes to Launch Trampoline Park is 6th
grader Noor Medani-Martinez, who turned in 294 usable BoxTops.
A final collection will
be done before the end of school, so make sure to keep collecting those
BoxTops, especially those with an expiration date over the summer of 2018.

Resources Available
FCPS has developed some
attendance guidelines that may be helpful to parents throughout the year.
For more information: https://www.fcps.edu/node/35733
Students in grades 3-6 will be
taking the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) Tests from May 7 - June 1. It
will be very helpful if you can avoid appointments and trips which may take
your child out of school during this time period.
If you'd like more information about testing in FCPS, there are new public FCPS Student Assessment webpages available for parents/guardians to access basic information about their
children’s required assessments. In compliance with Every Student
Succeeds Act (ESSA) testing transparency, these webpages give an overview
of:
- Right
to refuse participation in state testing (e.g., SOLs)
- Required
assessments at each grade level
- Resources
for accessing and understanding assessment results
Thank you for your support and
assistance with our SOL test administration.
