Belvedere News and Announcements

Welcome to the new Belvedere News You Choose!

Belvedere is pleased to launch a new communications platform in connection with FCPS.  This is a subscription-based email service called News You Choose.

As a parent or staff member Belvedere, you are now automatically subscribed to our weekly news and announcements, and you do not need to do anything to continue receiving messages.  You may always unsubscribe by clicking the link at the bottom of these messages.  This weekly message will replace Keep in Touch (KIT) reminders.

The News You Choose tool will not replace Wednesday folders or essential information FCPS communicates using the KIT system.  Parents will continue to receive emergency messages, delayed openings and school closings, attendance messages, low lunch balances, and other critical information in the same format, separate from News You Choose.  Parents are automatically signed up to receive this essential information and will continue to receive messages.  Please be on the lookout for further information about communications as we transition to the new system.

Wednesday Folder Information

Please find electronic copies of your child's Wednesday folder items on the PTA website.

Belvedere Connection

Dear Belvedere families,

We are deeply saddened by the news coming out of Parkland, Florida this past week. We want you to know that we care deeply about your child(ren) and that we strive to make school a safe and welcoming environment each day.  The children are front and center in our minds each day and drive us to continually strive for educational excellence. Some of the things we do at Belvedere to maintain a safe environment are:

  • We implement Responsive Classroom principles, which include morning meetings to build community, logical consequences for actions, and developing classroom talk that is supportive and respectful.
  • We value all voices and support students in learning ways to make their voices heard. This includes direct instruction on talk moves (ways to engage in conversation and share ideas), opportunities for discussion in all curricular areas, as well as partner and group work to develop collaboration skills.
  • As an IB-Primary Years Program school, we work to develop students who embody the learner profile attributes, namely inquirer, knowledgeable, thinker, communicator, principled, open-minded, caring, risk takers, balanced, and reflective.
  • We keep close tabs on all students’ academic and socio-emotional needs. When situations arise, we work with all pertinent staff and parents to ensure students are supported and find success.
  • And as a final but essential measure, our regular safety drills (including fire, tornado and lockdown and procedures such as keeping doors locked throughout the day, help ensure that we are prepared for the unexpected.

Belvedere is an exemplary Title I IB-Primary Years Program school.  We are excited to come to work each day to work together for the good of our students. We thank you for your ongoing support.

Warm regards,

Cecilia Vanderhye, Principal

Lauren Badini, Assistant Principal

Recognition at the National Title I Conference

On Friday, February 8, 2018 we were honored to be recognized in Philadelphia at the National Title I Conference as a Distinguished School! At a ceremony led by the president of the National Title I Schools Association, each of the two schools selected from each state were asked to come on stage with their school banner and share fun facts about what makes each school unique.

In addition to Belvedere administrators (Lauren and Cecilia), we were joined by our Region 2 Assistant Superintendent, Dr. Fabio Zuluaga, Region 2 Executive Principal, Dr. Brendan Menuey and Title I Coordinator, Dr. Tara Lobin.
