Students Services has Moved!
Counselors’ offices and the Career Center have officially moved to Cougar Town. Counselors are in Trailer #31 and the Career Center is in Trailer #35. Come visit us!
If you need to visit school counseling, please check in at the main office before visiting our new location. As always, if you need to contact one of our school counselors, their information can be found on our website.
Parking
Applications for 2018-19
We
have already begun to receive questions regarding next year’s parking
applications! We will advertise via Oakton Updates as time gets closer and we
have specific information from Design and Construction. Thank you!
AP Exams for Non-Enrolled Students
If any student wants to take an AP
exam in a course that he/she is not enrolled in, registration is now open and
is due no later than March 1. Each exam costs $93, and the form to register can
be found in school counseling or on our website.
Students currently enrolled in an AP course do not need to complete any form to
register.

FEB 21 PTSA MEETING CANCELLED
Due to the girls and boys basketball
regional tournament games that will be held at Oakton on Wednesday evening
(Feb. 21), our rescheduled February PTSA meeting is cancelled.
Our next meeting will be held on MONDAY, MARCH 5 immediately following a
presentation by FCPS on the renovation. The renovation presentation will begin
at 6:30 PM in the auditorium; the PTSA meeting will begin after the
presentation ends and will be held in the library.

The next PTSA meeting will be held on
MONDAY, MARCH 5 immediately following a presentation by FCPS on the renovation.
The renovation presentation will begin at 6:30 PM in the auditorium; the PTSA
meeting will begin after the presentation ends and will be held in the library.
Boys/Girls State
Attention all juniors!
Are you interested in government? Are you looking for leadership opportunities?
Consider applying for a slot to participate in the American Legion Auxiliary
Virginia Boys/Girls State!
Boys/Girls State is an opportunity to practice and develop leadership skills;
to study local and state government; and to live, work, and associate with
other young leaders from across the state. Candidates must be of the rising
senior class (current juniors) and have an interest in municipal and state
government. For more information and/or an application, please see Ms. Sherrill

to learn more.
Boys State will be held on the campus of Radford University in Radford, VA
Girls State will be held on the campus of Longwood University in Farmville, VA

Chemistry Olympiad – Test March 7,
Last week to Sign Up!!
The Washington Area Local Section of
the American Chemical Society (ACS) is now seeking students interested in the
2018 United States National Chemistry Olympiad (USNCO). The Society will use
the 2018 USNCO Local Section Examination to select those students who will go
on to the USNCO National Examination in April. According to USNCO rules, only
20 students per school are allowed to take the exam. For that reason, the exam
will be given only to students who have taken AP Chemistry or are currently
enrolled in AP Chemistry.
The Local Section Exam is a timed multiple-choice exam of 60 questions in 110
minutes. Students must be younger than 20 years old on July 1st.
The Exam will be held in Room 119 on Wednesday, March 7, at 3:00pm.

The first 20 students to sign up, will be selected to take the exam. The LAST
DAY TO SIGN UP is FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 23.

U.S. Service Academy & ROTC Night: Tuesday,
February 27 from 7-8:30PM at Fairfax High School (Auditorium)
Meet
with representatives from the military academies and ROTC programs, as well
as a representative from Congressman Gerry Connolly’s office who will speak
about the nomination process. (Snow Date: Thursday, March 6) **Sophomores
and Juniors, make sure to check this out!**
Outdoor Track & Field Team
It's not too late to tryout for spring
season track & field! Do you think you are fast or have a lot of endurance,
or maybe want to stay in shape for another sport? Come tryout for the team
starting Monday, Feb 26. We will meet at 3:15 in the cafeteria. Any

Author Rachel Hartman to visit OHS
Library!
Friday, March 9 Oakton High School is
happy to welcome author Rachel Hartman to the library!
There will be a general session during Advisory, during which Ms. Hartman will
discuss her books and her life as an author. (When you sign up for this, you
need to let your Advisory teacher know you will be at the author session.)
Ms. Hartman will then hold a writing workshop during A and B lunches (this is a
single, one-hour session). To attend the writing workshop, you need permission
from your 6th period teacher to miss the A- and B-lunch portions of class.

Rachel Hartman is the author of novels including: Seraphina, Shadow Scale, and
the soon to be published Tess of the Road. (February 27th)!
