Haycock Boosterthon Fun Run

We are so excited to host the Haycock Boosterthon Fun Run to help our school!  The Haycock Boosterthon Fun Run is a fun, nine-day program that combines world-class character content with a highly-profitable fundraiser. Along with this program, we will provide each student with a FREE custom Haycock Elementary School t-shirt to wear the day of the Haycock Boosterthon Fun Run event, at no cost to the student, school, or the Haycock PTA.

In order to make this happen, we need your help!  We are hoping to partner with local businesses to help sponsor our effort. If you know of or are part of a business that would be interested in sponsoring t-shirts for our students, please forward them the sponsor form found below.  Their name or logo will be displayed on the back of a shirt that will be worn by every student in the school. Not only will their support be helpful to Haycock Elementary School, but we believe it will bring more awareness to them and provide a profit in return. We need a commitment from all sponsors no later than the end of the day on March 6, 2018 in order to supply all of our students with a t-shirt.

Thank you in advance for supporting our school through the Haycock Boosterthon Fun Run! If you have any questions, please contact the administrative team at jjdonnelly@fcps.edu, wsreeder1@fcps.edu, and haboyd@fcps.edu.

Message from the FLES Department

Hello Haycock Parents!

We are very excited to announce that the “FLES: Learning Spanish at Haycock” course is now available on Blackboard. You can access tools like Quizlet as well as links to songs and videos that will help your child to learn Spanish at home.  This is also a great resource for children that want to strengthen their Spanish language skills and keep pushing to learn more of this wonderful language.  Feel free to contact us with any questions.

Please feel free to come to your child’s Physical Education class or classes the week of February 26 through March 2 to participate, help turn ropes and observe the amazing jumping skills our students have been practicing.

The first step is to register online using the link below.  Then, start talking up the Jump event and ask friends and family if they would like to donate.

By participating your child will learn about heart health, contribute to a vital cause, and earn fun prizes featuring this year’s heart health ambassadors, the Scare Squad. They are lots of fun!

The Art and Science of Talking with Your Kids

The Art and Science of Talking with Your Kids, featuring Dr. Wendy Mogel

Wednesday, May 2, 2018, at 7 p.m. at Temple Rodef Shalom in McLean

Buy your tickets here (https://voicelessons.brownpapertickets.com) for this essential guide to the art of talking with children of all ages. Learn how to cultivate the art of conversation – from infancy to adulthood – in an age of hurry, worry, and digital distraction. Presented by the Safe Community Coalition, Dr. Mogel is known for combining cutting-edge psychological research with timeless wisdom in guiding parents through the rough waters of child rearing in today’s competitive world.

In her new book, Voice Lessons for Parents: What to Say, How to Say it, and When to Listen, Dr. Mogel shows us how a change in voice can transform communication and ease the relationship between parents and children. Her research-based guidelines help parents communicate with more warmth, respect, and sincerity, as well as foster open parent-child relationships that will help ensure our children’s success in the classroom and in life. Find more information at the Safe Community Coalition website (mcleanscc.org).

Thank you, Haycock Custodial Team

This week students, staff members, and parents gave their appreciation to our hard working custodians.  Thank you for keeping Haycock clean, for taking out the trash and recycling each day, and for keeping essential items like paper towels in stock.  We appreciate you each and every day!

Registration for 2018-2019 School Year

Soon we will be in staffing season.  The number of staff members we are allocated is based upon student enrollment.  If you have a child or know of a family who has a child who will be attending Haycock next school year and who currently does not attend Haycock, please register your child now.

If a child has been accepted into the AAP program from another school and the family has notified the AAP Office of the acceptance, there is no need to notify Haycock.  The AAP Office communicates the list of students who will be attending Haycock from other schools to Haycock.

Click on the link below to fill out the form for rising kindergarteners. If your child is turning 5 on or before September 30, 2018, they are eligible for kindergarten. Partial registration paperwork is accepted.  This form is only requested to be completed if you have a rising kindergartener attending Haycock next school year.

Right now, we want to make sure our school is fully staffed for next school year.  We also want to make sure we are able to have the smallest class sizes possible.  The sooner we know how many students will be attending Haycock next school year, the sooner we can advocate for more staff and then hire more teachers.

You are welcome to use the attached New Student Registration Checklist in order to help you gather the information to register your child at Haycock.

The person who is able to answer all of your registration questions is Rebecca Wright.  She is reached via e-mail at: rlwright@fcps.edu or call the school office at: 703-531-4002
