It was so nice to see many of you at the PTA's Something Sweet with Someone You Love event Friday morning! I also appreciate those who were able to stay for the Principal coffee. If you were not able to attend the coffee, I covered several topics: hiring, technology, professional development, advanced academics (AAP), and, most importantly, safety. Since I can be a bit of a talker (thanks Dad), it would be no small feat to capture everything here. Instead, here is a very consolidated review!
- Hiring - It's almost that time of year again. We work very hard to recruit, hire, and retain the best teachers and support staff we can find! This is one of the most important jobs of the Principal because it's people that make the difference in our school.
- Technology & Professional Development - In partnership with the PTA, we have made great strides with access, continue to support the Bring Your Own Device program in the upper grades, and provide ongoing professional development opportunities for staff. Overcoming our former access issue was just phase one! Now we are building teacher capacity to leverage technology to enhance our instructional practices!
- AAP - Our level IV program is strong and we are proud of being able to meet the needs of every student in our community. Our vertical team of 3rd-6th grade AAP teachers is phenomenal (reminder - it is the teacher that makes the difference)! Looking online at websites rating FHES? I urge you to look beyond an isolated SOL score and learn what really happens behind our doors. Get involved and you'll see!
- Safety - Our #1 priority, no questions asked. Students and staff must be safe and feel safe, then we can build relationships and teach. Our Crisis Management Plan, safety drills, and collaboration with the Office of Safety and Security continues to ensure we are being proactive as well as prepared to react swiftly to any necessary situations that could disrupt our mission of educating our students.
Thanks again to those able to come to the coffee. I am here to answer any of your questions about the aforementioned topics and beyond. Does it still take a village to raise a child? You bet it does! Thank you for your continued partnership.
