The annual retirement
ceremony, We Honor You—Celebrating Your Service to FCPS, will be
held on May 7, at 6 p.m. at Thomas Jefferson High
School for Science and Technology. The evening begins with an hors d’oeuvre
reception for retirees, along with their family and friends. This will be followed
by a recognition ceremony with the superintendent, Leadership Team and the
School Board.
Those planning to
retire should submit their Notification of Resignation-Retirement form (HR-2) as soon as possible. Invitations to this ceremony will be
sent in March to those who have retired since the May 2017
retirement ceremony and those who plan to retire prior to December
31, 2018. More information about the retirement ceremony, including
photos from previous ceremonies, is available online.
If you have questions, please email WeHonorYou@fcps.edu.
Based
on employee feedback received from the Pay Schedule Survey taken in December
2017, FCPS will change the number of scheduled payments for less-than-12-month
employees to accommodate returning to work when the school year begins prior to
Labor Day.
Effective
Fiscal Year 2019, 10-month paid employees (excluding 180-day personnel) will be
paid over 11 months (August-June) and 11-month employees (excluding 209-day
personnel) will be paid over 12 months (July-June). Access the survey
results, pay examples from the survey, and additional information on the intranet.

Valentine's Day was extra special for Sleepy Hollow ES Principal Eric Johnson. A first grade class surprised him with a beautiful book of poems written by the students. Eric tweeted, "This is awesome!" We agree. (Photo: Eric Johnson)

#OurFCPS Faces: Caren Ferguson and Dolores Moran
FCPS staff celebrated FCPS Cares of the Month winners Caren Ferguson (third from left) and Dolores
Moran (second from right) from McNair ES.
Instructional Assistants Caren Ferguson and Dolores Moran recently received FCPS Cares of the Month awards for their dedication to students at McNair ES. Check out the submission that scored them recognition:
"Caren and Dolores are both instructional assistants in my CatB classroom. They both go above and beyond their
duties to support the needs of students in my class. They both care
for the students' well-being, feelings, basic needs, and academic and
emotional needs. They both also support my ideas and goals as a teacher
for the class, as well as supporting the "teamwork" goal and spirit,
that I wish for my classroom to have. My students enjoy their company,
as do I! Caren and Dolores deserve to be recognized for their
dedication, flexibility, and professionalism with their students and
colleagues." –Adrienne Rafat, Multiple Disabilities Teacher
Keep up the outstanding work, Caren and Dolores!
Note: "CatB" is an abbreviation for Category B Services. These services are received by students who are accessing an adapted curriculum and who are receiving services for autism (AUT), intellectual disabilities (ID), intellectual disabilities severe (IDS), noncategorical elementary (NCE), and physical disabilities (PD).
