Spring 2018 SOL Testing Schedule
Mark your calendars! Churchill Road students in Grades 3-6 will be taking the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) Tests from May 22 through May 31, 2018. Testing will begin at 8:45 a.m. on each of these days. If your student will be absent on a scheduled testing date, please notify his or her classroom teacher. Make-up tests will be scheduled upon the student’s return, through the end of the testing window (June 8, 2018).
It will be very helpful if you can avoid appointments which may take your child out of school during this time period. Also, it will help your child perform his or her best if he or she has had a good night’s rest, a healthy breakfast, and comes to school with a positive attitude. Dates for each grade level test are shown below.
The Virginia SOL tests measure the extent to which students have learned the content and skills specified in content areas such as writing, reading, mathematics, history/social studies and science.
Please look for additional information to be posted on grade-level BlackBoard sites and future Churchill Chatters.
Congratulations Beeda-Lee Pawlik, CRS Crossing Guard
Churchill Road crossing guard, Beeda-Lee Pawlak, is one of two FCPS crossing guards to be presented with Virginia’s 2018 Most Outstanding Crossing Guard Award. Although only a first year crossing guard, Beeda expertly manages the traffic at Raymond Avenue and Churchill Road. She approaches motorists with a friendly and firm demeanor, resulting in clear communication on how vehicles should operate with minimal traffic backup. We are fortunate to have Beeda working with our student population. Be sure to congratulate Beeda the next time you are walking to school with your students.
Wellness: Benefits of Creating Art
Mrs. Ojeda's kindergartners share some Seussical inspiration for the Bookmark Contest!
Research has demonstrated there are both physical and mental benefits from creating art. Expressing yourself through art can reduce stress and anxiety, increase positive emotions, and improve flow and spontaneity. Of course, you can sign up for a stained glass class or learn how to throw pottery, but you can also reap the benefits of making art right where you are right now. You can pick up a pen and doodle a fun sketch, write a poem, snap an inspiring photo, crank up the music and dance, build something, or paint something. Decide to make more art and improve your health and happiness, as well as brighten our community.
Students are encouraged to submit their Dr. Seuss-inspired artwork as part of the annual bookmark contest by next Wednesday, February 21. Entry forms are online at http://www2.fcps.edu/ChurchillRoadES/forms/2018_%20Seuss-draw_character.pdf
