Robinson Student Ram Blast, Week of February 19, 2018

STUDENT RAM BLAST

Providing students and parents with important updates and reports of events and happenings in the middle school.

Getting to know Robinson . . .

BALANCING ACT:     Having a family calendar in which both academic and recreational obligations or  responsibilities/activities are posted and in clear view (in the kitchen, on the refrigerator) or other "central" place in your home helps to keep everyone informed.  Learning how to manage time by  breaking  down long term assignments into manageable chunks and scheduling exactly what you hope to have accomplished by a certain date  or what supplies you may need by a set date will serve you well!   In addition to your personal device calendars and notes, your student agenda book has monthly calendars (pp. 22-31)  and also a notes section under Saturday of each week. Organization helps you keep balanced and reduces the stress of being overwhelmed when due dates are overlooked or....gasp.....forgotten!   Need help finding your balance?   Ask  your teacher for a RAISE pass or schedule an after school on the teacher's offered day or schedule a time with your counselor.   You have many supports to keep you balanced!

A Message from Parent Liaison Ruth Azimi

    Counselors' Corner

Welcome to Counselors’ Corner:  an occasional tip sheet from the Robinson Middle School Office of Student Services

    clock

Can you believe the second quarter of the 2017- 2018 school year is over?  Student services was quite busy during the first semester of school.  We started the year with meeting with our incoming 7th graders and welcoming them to RMS!  We have worked with all students in various capacities such as classroom guidance, individual sessions, scheduling issues, 504’s, IEP’s, and our Mathematics Night parent session. During second semester we plan to start incorporating small groups, provide career lessons, assist with high school transition, and support standardized testing.  In our efforts to keep you connected please stop by student services or visit our website for lots of great information.

    Middle School Mid- Year Blues

    heart

How do we motivate our middle school students and keep them engaged in learning during second semester?

Middle school students are motivated by the feeling of having choices, of belonging, and of success.

As students strive to be viewed as “mature,” they welcome the opportunity to make their own choices. Running a dictatorship will get you nowhere fast. They need to know their voice is heard.

Celebrate their achievements and give them choice and voice.

All people, regardless of their age, appreciate praise and acknowledgement for their efforts.

Positive reinforcement goes a long way because the more successful students feel, the more effort they will put into succeeding!
