Mrs. Hayes' Class Stays in Touch with Former Classmate and Forever Friend
Every day during the class morning meeting, the students in Mrs. Hayes' 2nd grade class look around their circle and notice which students are absent that day. These students' names are moved to the center of the magnetic heart tray (seen pictured above) and the class sings a special song in their honor, "We Wish You Well." Students who are absent know that their classmates are thinking of them, are missing them, and anticipating their return. When students return to school either later that day or subsequent days, the class sings a "Welcome Back" song to their classmate. This simple but special routine makes all students in this class know that they belong and they are valued.
Back in November, Baer Bjerke, who had been a member of Mrs. Hayes' class since the beginning of first grade, moved with his family to Hawaii. Every day since Baer moved, the students in Mrs. Hayes' class sing him their special "We Wish You Well" song as a way of acknowledging that they miss him. As a special treat this past Monday, Baer's parents and Mrs. Hayes arranged for Baer and the class to Skype together. The students took turns standing in front of the camera and asking their friend questions and listening to Baer share about his home and new school in Hawaii. It was an emotional and exciting moment for this special 2nd grade class.
The teachers and ALL staff at Fairview are truly among the most dedicated and hard working folks with whom I have ever had the honor to work. I am grateful to be able to learn from these wonderful people every day. I highly encourage each parent to take a few minutes to submit one or more notes of thanks to Fairview teachers and other staff members for the incredible work they do for the students at Fairview. Your kind notes really can make someone's day! Please use this link to submit your compliments. These compliments are printed out and given to the named staff members as well as hung on our staff compliment bulletin board in the hallway near the front lobby entrance for all to see!

Do you have a child who will be 5 by 9/30/18?
If so, please complete the Survey of Preschool Children
originally sent home on January 17, or give it to a neighbor or friend with a
rising kindergarten-aged child. We don't
want to miss inviting soon-to-be kindergartners to our Kindergarten Orientation
on Monday, April 16, 2:00-4:00 p.m. More
Survey forms are available in the Fairview Office, or call Sarah Fuller,
Registrar, at 703-503-3703.
Have you activated your SIS Parent Account?
The SIS Parent Account provides you access to view your
child's student information including attendance, report cards, classes,
discipline, health, and school information.
SIS Parent Accounts and FCPS 24-7 Learning accounts use the same
username and password. Additionally,
FCPS is increasingly using on-line applications which will require access
through your SIS Parent Account. For
example, the 2018-2019 academic year will require parents to use their SIS
Parent Account to register for the Language Immersion Program lottery, to submit
a Transfer Application, etc.
Information to activate your SIS Parent Account was sent
by postal mail in August and September.
Parents who have not yet activated their
account will be receiving a letter with your specific activation code and
directions through your youngest child's Wednesday Folder throughout
February. There are approximately 200 parents who
have not yet activated their SIS Parent Account and for whom letters will be
generated. If you have any questions,
please contact Sarah Fuller, Student Information Assistant/Registrar, at
703-503-3703.
