School Updates:
Our lost and found has many warm coats and jackets and a box
completely full of hats and gloves. Please have your child check the lost and found for any missing items. Parents/guardians are welcome to check too! All items that are not retrieved will be donated at the end of next
week.
NEW FCPS Public Testing
Website: Student Assessment web pages are now available for parents/guardians to access basic information about your children’s required assessments. Information includes required assessments at each grade level and resources for accessing and understanding assessment results.
 The Fife and Drum Corps visited KMES this week!
Community Services Board Training for Parents on March 3 from 8:00 a..m. to 5:30 p.m in the KMES library. Do you know what to do
if a neighbor or child posts on social media that they have a desire to hurt
themselves? When does a child’s response to stress
and anxiety become unhealthy? Join us in learning the risk factors and warning signs related
to identifying stress in children and teenagers, as well as positive protective
factors. It is designed for any caring parent or member of the KMES community. Children are not allowed due to the sensitive
nature of the discussion. Participants will need to pack a lunch and bring $25.00 for a

Parent University, March 6th 6:30 – 8:30, Irving Middle School

PTA Nominating Committee: We need YOU! Here’s
your opportunity to contribute to the future of the KMES PTA. This committee
will help solicit nominations for the 2018-2019 elected Executive Board

READ-A-THON is coming (February 26th - March 3rd)!!! This is the 5th annual Kanga READ-A-THON to encourage our children to develop excellent reading habits and raise funds to support our school. This is the PTA’s major fundraiser of the year, and we appreciate your support. All monies raised will go directly back to the school to help fund Field Trips, STEAM Lab, Assemblies, Author Visits, Classroom supplies, and more! Look for more information coming soon in the Thursday Folders.
Save the DATES (February 20th - March 2nd) and your BOOKS! The KMES PTA will be collecting books appropriate for elementary aged students elementary aged children for our upcoming book drive. Bins will be located at the school. More info will be coming soon!
Student Directory Orders: There are a limited number of Student Directories available for sale. The cost is $10 per directory. Please send orders to the school office with your child’s name, grade and teacher. Checks can be made payable to Keene Mill PTA. Please contact kmesptapresident@gmail.com with questions.
STEAM Lab: Volunteers are needed in each class during STEAM Lab to assist students with selecting, using, and cleaning up materials. Students visit the lab every other week to engage in science, engineering, and creativity. No technical or STEAM related experience is necessary! Volunteers are also needed to sort material, change out batteries, etc. Contact Mrs. Fawcett, pafawcett@fcps.edu to schedule a time to volunteer. Mrs. Fawcett can always use shoe boxes, paper towel rolls, and Legos. If you want to donate any of these items, please send them to school with your child.
