College 101-Tuesday, February 13th

College 101 has been rescheduled to Tuesday, February 13th at 7p.m. in the Auditorium.

Come learn what it means when they say, "College is a match to be made, not a prize to be won."

College 101 is an opportunity to learn more about the college admissions process and meet the staff at Woodson who will guide your child along this process.

Current sophomore families are encouraged to attend even though this process may seem far away.

If you have any questions, please contact Kathleen Ishii, Career Center Specialist at kaishii@fcps.edu

Milk and Cookies

Needed: More than 200 dozen cookies. Please sign up to bake: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f084aa8a629a20-valentines

On Wednesday, February 14th, we will be celebrating our Woodson students with milk and cookies. For those of you new to the school, this is a great tradition. It is a unique way for parents and community members to recognize our students and to show them positive community support. Traditionally, milk and cookies are mentioned in "All I Really Need to Know, I Learned in Kindergarten" as a valuable life lesson. Warm cookies and cold milk are good for you! At this event, parent volunteers make hundreds of dozens of cookies and the PTSO donates milk boxes. After school on February 14th, parent volunteers shower the kids with warmth and pass out baggies of cookies and milk to each student at Woodson! In order for this to be successful, we need LOTS of help. Please visit the sign-up genius to donate cookies and/or help distribute on February 14th: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f084aa8a629a20-valentines

It's a great way to see smiling students:) Any questions, please email Shannon Murphy at shannon.murphy29@gmail.com.

Parking Information

The businesses at Woodson Square (across Whitacre Road from the school) have requested that students and parents refrain from parking in their lot.  There have been several instances of students parking in their business lot and parents using the lot as a kiss and ride.  They will start to enforce towing if parking in their lot continues.

LoyalHeart

Loyal Heart

Loyal Heart is a student-written and produced Musical which opens Friday, February 16th at 7pm and runs through Saturday, February 17th at 1pm in the Woodson Auditorium.  The performances are free and open to the public. Tickets are available at https://loyalheartthemusical.eventbrite.com.

Senior Paul Hardin makes history jump out of the history books and onto the stage with an all new musical Loyal Heart about young King Henry VIII.  To tell this tale, Paul composed 24 original songs, fully orchestrated for a 16 piece pit orchestra.  Change surrounds young King Henry VIII as he grapples with a destiny he did not expect.  The musical asks the question: Who is the Loyal Heart?

Fifty busy students have joined Paul to volunteer their time to make Loyal Heart come to life. As a completely student-led production with the support of Woodson’s Tri-M musical honor society, Loyal Heart gives participating students a chance to have leadership roles in music direction, set design and choreography.  Loyal Heart offers the complete cast and crew the unique opportunity to create a new musical while in high school.

The Blank Theater in Los Angeles selected Loyal Heart as a semi-finalist in their Young Playwrights Festival 2017.

FCPS Cares Recognition

Congratulations to Janet Peterson who was recently recognized through FCPS Cares!

"Every day when I walk into our office, I am greeted by Ms. Peterson who is always incredibly pleasant and kind. She has an amazing ability to manage countless employee schedules to organize meetings while smiling and maintaining a good sense of  humor. I've never seen her appear frazzled and her job could easily frazzle most! I am very lucky to work so close to Ms.

Peterson as she knows how to brighten your day!"
