Haycock Hello
February 9, 2018
Join me in congratulating Beeda as one of the winners of the 2017-2018
Virginia's Most Outstanding Crossing Guard Awards! There were over 76 different crossing guards throughout the Commonwealth nominated and the selection committee had to only pick six. Here at Haycock, we are proud to have Beeda who is truly outstanding,
consistently going above and beyond for our community. Be sure to
congratulate Beeda and show your appreciation on Crossing Guard Appreciation Day,
February 14th!
Beeda Lee-Pawlak, Fairfax County Public Schools
Beeda Lee-Pawlak is a first year crossing guard duty, but those who
nominated her have "never been more impressed with a crossing guard."
Beeda expertly manages the busy intersection of Westmorland Street and Haycock
Road, and her friendly and firm demeanor effectively conveys to cars and buses
how to operate, with minimal back up. Bus drivers understand exactly when to
stop and turn without hesitation or confusion.
Beeda's hard work, diligence, kindness, and control allow students
to arrive at school smiling and ready to learn. Parents emphasize that despite
the busy traffic their children must cross, they feel confident knowing that
Beeda is there to assist them. "Her whistle, uniform, and hand motions are
always crisp and perfect. I have never seen a crossing guard who does her job
so well! It prompted me to call the school just to find out who she is so I
could nominate her!"
Assessments are part of the teaching and learning process in Fairfax County Public Schools. Teachers give assessments to students on an ongoing basis to check for understanding and gather information about students' knowledge and skills. The state and school division also expect students to participate in certain tests to help with monitoring school and student performance and to provide information about additional services that may benefit the student.

Soon we will be in staffing season. The number of staff members we are allocated is based upon student enrollment. If you have a child or know of a family who has a child who will be attending Haycock next school year and who currently does not attend Haycock, please register your child now.
If a child has been accepted into the AAP program from another school and the family has notified the AAP Office of the acceptance, there is no need to notify Haycock. The AAP Office communicates the list of students who will be attending Haycock from other schools to Haycock.
Click on the link below to fill out the form for rising kindergarteners. If your child is turning 5 on or before September 30, 2018, they are eligible for kindergarten. Partial registration paperwork is accepted. This form is only requested to be completed if you have a rising kindergartener attending Haycock next school year.

Right now, we want to make sure our school is fully staffed for next school year. We also want to make sure we are able to have the smallest class sizes possible. The sooner we know how many students will be attending Haycock next school year, the sooner we can advocate for more staff and then hire more teachers.
You are welcome to use the attached New Student Registration Checklist in order to help you gather the information to register your child at Haycock.
The person who is able to answer all of your registration questions is Rebecca Wright. She is reached via e-mail at: rlwright@fcps.edu or call the school office at: 703-531-4002
On Saturday, February 10, 2018, Career and Transition Services along with several Fairfax County adult service providers and the FCPS Parent Resource Center, will host “Super Transition Saturday” from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Lanier Middle School. This is a free event for parents and educators of students with IEPs of all ages, elementary through high school. Breakout sessions will cover postsecondary support services, student self-determination as an evidence based predictor of postschool success, and in-school career and transition support services that are available to FCPS students as they progress through the secondary years toward graduation and beyond. A highlight of the day is a parent and student panel representing a range of challenges and successes. Members of the panel will convey personal experiences and answer parent and student questions from their perspectives of having been through the transition process. Childcare is provided for ages 3 and up and requires advance registration. You can register at: Super Transition Saturday. The snow date will be February 24, 2018.
