Science Fair

Congratulations to all of our students who participated in the science fair last night (Wednesday).   We had over 560 projects completed this year. The first round of judging selected the 205 projects that were evaluated last night. I was so impressed not only with the experiments done but the preparation and demeanor of our students at the event. Congratulations to all the winners!

Thank you to all the teachers in the Science Department and to Dr. & Dr. Buckley, community members, for all their time, effort and support of the event. Additionally, we had 120 volunteer judges last night who gave their time and expertise to make the event possible – thank you!

SLHS Addition- IS OPEN!

The new addition, just under 40,000 square feet, opened to classes on Tuesday. Our staff and students are loving the brightness, classroom skylights, temperature controls, enhanced audio systems and bathrooms with automated features.

Crews will still be on campus for several weeks working on punch-list items and finishing some of the exterior work that needs to be completed.

Academic Advising

Our school counselors are busy meeting with their students to complete academic advising conversations in preparation for next year.  They are almost done with rising seniors. Next week they will begin meeting with rising juniors.  The course catalog for rising 10th, 11th and 12th graders can be found at https://insys.fcps.edu/CourseCatOnline/#/frontPanel/487/nocourselist/0/0/0

The selection of courses for rising 9th graders is done at their middle school. The catalogue for rising 9th graders can be found at https://insys.fcps.edu/CourseCatOnline/#/frontPanel/487/nocourselist/1/0/0

If you have not had a conversation with your student yet about classes for next year please do so. Our staffing decisions are made based on the courses students register for now. We will be making staffing decision in late March.

Please be sure to read all the information for more on the changes!

MLK Day Celebration

Thank you to the Reston Community Center who sponsored The Color Orange performance at SLHS on Monday, Jan. 22nd. About 300 of our students had the opportunity to experience this dynamic duo:

Mohammed Bilal and Josh "Boac" Goldstein use their friendship to actively challenge the American stereotypes of Black and White, Jew and Muslim, urban and suburban. Through hip-hop, theatre and sheer mayhem, they create and demonstrate 10 steps we can take toward true cross-cultural communication and understanding. The Color Orange is a fun, vibrant new look at race, racism and the ways we can get along.” (Reston Community Center website).
