Colin Powell Families,
We are proud to continue hosting an annual drive, Pennies for Patients, for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in honor of Colin Powell's first principal, Mr. Hull, and his daughter Marissa's battle with cancer. We are proud to continue this fundraiser to honor Marissa and celebrate the full life she is now living working for a nation-wide medical organization in Arizona. What a success story!
This year we are working hard to raise $8,000 which would mean Colin Powell will have raised $40,000 since this drive first began at the school. What is really exciting is when we reach the $8,000 goal, WE ARE GOING TO GET SLIMED during a school-wide Pep Rally on Friday, March 23rd! The students are really excited! We are close to reaching our $8,000 goal and hope our students will continue donating pennies!
We are sure the students are going to love watching us get green slime dumped on our heads!
Your Proud Principals, Mrs. Luerssen, Mrs. Baugh & Ms. Pendergrass

CPES Strings students visited Wolf Trap National Park for the
Performing Arts for a special Backstage Tour last Saturday. Students
and their families stepped onto the main stage, learned about behind-the-scenes
jobs, and toured the dressing rooms and rehearsal space used by artists who
perform at Wolf Trap!
March 26 – March 30, 2018
April 2, 2018 Student Holiday
Please note, the CPES main office
will be closed during Spring Break. Our staff will return for a teacher workday
on Monday, April 2nd, and students will return on Tuesday, April 3rd.
We wish each of you a happy, safe Spring Break.
Congratulations to the winners of the 2017-18 Colin
Powell Spelling Bee hosted by our PTA! We are incredibly proud of all
participants, and are excited to share Daniel earned second place and Jasmine
first place. They proudly made it through 37 rounds from the first word,
basting, to the last word, battlement!
Pictured below are all students participating in the
second round competition as well as our first and second place winners.
Congrats to all! What an accomplishment!

*Parents of rising kindergarten and first graders who wish
to apply for the Korean Immersion Program must register their child and obtain
a SIS parent account prior to April 6, 2018. Please call the school office at
(571) 522-6000 for more information and to make a registration appointment.
The Kiss and Ride line has been extremely long in the morning
causing many students to be late to class. Please be reminded Kiss and
Ride is intended for our out of boundary Korean Immersion students who do not
have bus service.
Even in cold and inclement weather, the bus is the best and safest
transportation method. Remember parents and students can wait at the bus
stop in their cars until the bus arrives.
In addition to the length of the line, parents and staff have
raised concerns about safety. Parents are illegally parking in the handicap
parking spots and are crossing through the Kiss and Ride line to walk their
children into school. When parking, please do so in parking spaces (not blocking behind the spaces) and
use the sidewalk to walk your child to school. Walking through the line is
unsafe and also causes a delay for those waiting in the line.
Dear
Parents/Guardians
The
Internet is an amazing tool kids can use to do homework, keep in touch with
friends and families, and access educational opportunities. However, the
Internet is also filled with inappropriate content. Developmentally, the
preadolescent and middle school child is still learning impulse control.
This can lead them to make decisions in cyberspace that dramatically impact
their lives and the lives of their family.
Rocky
Run Middle School presents “Exploring the Effects of
the Online World on our Kids.” April 26, 7:00 p.m at Rocky Run Middle
School. This program is open to all parents. Parents of elementary
and middle school children will find it most useful. Parents will be
given information on how to guide and protect kids on-line, what
technology is used in the classrooms in FCPS, and receive a multitude of parent
resources: parental controls, iindependent
reviews, age ratings, & other information about all types of media kids are
using and/or exposed to; and information on the apps and websites kids are
using after Facebook.
In order to make this program more meaningful for our parents, we
ask you to complete a short survey, found at https://goo.gl/forms/6vvXX1tVR4PV9Hsp2
Your answers to this survey will help us shape the workshops for
participants.
