Principal's Note
Dear Rocky Run Families:
What a wonderful week at Rocky Run MS! We kicked off the second semester with a full four days of learning and students getting accustomed to new schedules. We also welcomed the families of our incoming 7th grade Rising Rams to the Rocky Run MS community at our Curriculum Night and Electives Fair this week.
The Week of February 5-9 is National School Counseling Week. If you or your child would like to send a note of thanks to his or her School Counselor at Rocky Run MS please use the form.
Our Positivity Project strength this week is Prudence. Prudence is a future-oriented way of thinking that helps a person set goals, make plans, and have the discipline to accomplish them. The focus on this strength is timely as our students look ahead to course selection and make plans for their academic future. I am very proud of the work of our student Rambassadors who shared a video with our students and staff about the meaning of Prudence. Be sure to check it out on Twitter @PosProject or @DrGoodloe.
I welcome your feedback, questions, concerns. Please feel free to reach out to me at any time. I hope to see you at Rocky Run MS very soon.
Sincerely,
Amy Goodloe, Ed.D.

Student Services Updates
A big
thank you to all the parents of rising 7th graders who came to
Curriculum Night this week. Seeing you
here and meeting you is such a wonderful experience for us. We look forward to working with you and your
children next year. We have posted the
slides and presentation material for your benefit: https://rockyrunms.fcps.edu/features/curriculum-night-2018 . Elementary schools have been
asked to submit their students' course selection sheets to RRMS by Feb. 14.
Counselors have met with all of our current 8th graders to go over the course selections for 9th grade. Please ask your child to see their copy of the
course selection sheet. If you wish to
make changes, please contact your child’s counselor via email.
Counselors
begin meeting with current 7th graders on Feb. 5. They will meet individually with students
during science classes. Students will
receive a copy of their course selection sheet to take home. Parents will also be able to see their child's
selections in Parent Vue but only after the counselor/student meeting.
Parents are now able to
see the 2nd quarter grades in Parent Vue. We will be sending report cards home with
students on February 6th. If
you have questions about the quarter grades, please contact your child’s
teacher. As we are at the beginning of
the spring semester, we encourage parents to continue monitoring student grades
via Parent Vue. If you see assignments
missing, it is better to reach out to the teacher early in the quarter to help
address any concerns you may have.
School Safety and Threat Assessment
Fairfax County Public Schools has a well-established policy and protocol for responding to threats of violence in the schools. To help parents and older students learn more about the role they can play in keeping schools safe, we have collaborated with the Youth Violence Project of the Curry School of Education, University of Virginia to develop short videos with useful information. These brief modules were developed for parents and children aged 12 and up, and you may want to watch the student video with your child to answer any questions which may arise. To access these modules go to www.schoolthreatassessment.com and use parent code pgvsdt and student code sy8zk2 as a password.
