1. National School Counseling Week will be celebrated from Feb. 5th - 9th, to focus public attention on the unique contribution of school counselors within U.S. school systems. National School Counseling Week, sponsored by ASCA, highlights the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career. Thank you to our wonderful counselors Mrs. Humphrey, Mrs. Ferrell, Ms. Fajardo, Mrs. Little and Ms. Fraundorfer for all you do to support our Carson students.
2. Recommendation and Records Request - We recognize that it may be necessary to request teacher recommendations and records for a private school application, summer program or other special opportunity throughout the year. We ask that you give staff ample time to provide this information by allowing 2 weeks for all requests. We work as timely as we can and our teachers need time to submit a thoughtful recommendation for your student.
3. Finance Park Chaperone Sign-Ups: 8th Grade teams whose Finance Park field trips were postponed due to weather-related school delays and closings have now been rescheduled. If you would like to chaperone your child's field trip, please sign up at:

Although you may have previously signed up to chaperone on the original field trip date, you will have to sign up again at this link for the rescheduled date.
4. 8th Grade Writing SOL Dates - 8th Grade students will be taking the VA SOL for Grade 8 Writing on March 6 and 7 (snow dates March 8 and 9). It is important your child attend school on these days. If possible, please avoid scheduling trips or appointments that would take your child out of school during this time period.
5. Carson Telephone Upgrade: FCPS has been upgrading telephone systems across the county for a couple of years and it is now our turn. On Wednesday, January 31, all of Carson MS will be upgraded to the new system. We expect this upgrade to go smoothly, however, we do ask for your patience as we learn and adapt to the new program.
6. Emotional/Social Health Lessons - This week, 8th grade students will begin their units in Emotional and Social Health. 7th grade students will have their lessons at the end of February. Students that have been opted out will have an alternative assignment in the library. If you have questions regarding lessons or your child's participation, please contact their PE teacher.

South Lakes High School - Course Registration rising 9th Graders
Accounting was inadvertently left off of the course selection sheet for rising 9th grade students that will be going to South Lakes. This is an elective option for students. If they would like to enroll, they should write in Accounting on their course selection sheet.
Community News....
Fairfax County Association for the Gifted will host a Summer Camp and Enrichment Fair on Saturday, February 10, 10:00AM-Noon (Rain date February 17), at McLean High School Cafeteria. Over 40 summer camp programs will be represented, both academic and recreational. For more information please visit www.fcag.org.
