FCPSOn and SOL Testing
Franklin
Community,
SOL
season is quickly approaching and with being an FCPSOn school all students this
year will be testing on the FCPSOn student laptops. Here are a few things
that students and parents need to do an be aware of prior to testing to make
sure that testing season continues to be a success :
- While in
school, students should restart each Tuesday
and shutdown each Friday during Learning
Seminar. This will ensure that computers
don’t go into update mode during SOL testing.
- Bring your charger each day to school, especially during SOL
testing. Computers used for SOL testing must be plugged in per VDOE
regulations.
- If your computer needs to be fixed, please bring it to the Help
Desk as soon as possible to ensure it gets returned in time for SOL testing.
- Make sure the student’s name is on the FCPSOn computer, charger, and bag in
case it gets misplaced.
-
If students have changed the FCPSOn
default screensaver, please either change it
back, set it to never, or come to the help
desk for assistance.
- Finally, when not in use,
computers should be shut down each day and over extended breaks to maintain
battery life and prevent overheating.
If
you have any questions or concerns, please feel call the front office.
Starting the Second Semester
ALL STUDENTS SHOULD REPORT TO THEIR LEARNING SEMINAR CLASSES
ON TUESDAY, JANUARY, 30, TO PICK UP THEIR NEW SECOND SEMESTER SCHEDULES.
STUDENTS WILL THEN BE RELEASED TO THEIR FIRST PERIOD CLASSES BY ANNOUNCEMENT.
SOL - REQUIRED SURVEY
INFORMATION
Franklin Middle School Parents,
Each Franklin MS student is required to have a
parent/guardian complete this survey regarding SOL retakes: https://goo.gl/forms/6s6gcKmOOr2UYYBP2 and SOL retest parent permission letter
Although SOLs do not take place for
several months, we are collecting parent permission now.
ALL STUDENTS MUST HAVE THIS
FORM FILLED OUT WHETHER YOU ARE GRANTING PERMISSION OR NOT, NO LATER THAN
FRIDAY, JANUARY 26th.
The Virginia Board of Education allows certain
elementary and middle school students who fail Standards of Learning (SOL)
tests on their first attempt to retake the test before the end of the school
year. Retesting is available before the end of the school year when a student
failed his or her first test attempt by a narrow margin (score of 375-399, with
a score of 400 needed to pass).
Parent permission is required for any retesting
of the grade level SOL tests. If you believe that your child would benefit from
receiving a second opportunity before the end of the school year to demonstrate
his or her knowledge and skills on the SOL test, please complete this
permission form and return it to your child’s school. A decision not to retest
will not in any way impact your child’s course grade or academic record.
You may fill out this online survey OR print
the attached form and send it to the main office with your student, NO LATER
THAN FRIDAY, JANUARY 26th .
Please contact Lea Fadden, Lea.Fadden@fcps.edu, with any questions.

Student Centered Learning
Our AMAZING librarian, Mrs.
Ruffle, worked with Ms. Rhoden’s Science class to create rubber band
cars! The project was the perfect opportunity to learn about potential
and kinetic energy. Students learned that friction (carpet in our
case) made the cars travel farther and faster.
