New! The PTSO Teacher Supply Closet
|
The PTSO membership committee assembled bags of basic classroom supplies
for the WTW staff who have joined the PTSO. Supplies included tissues, hand
sanitizer, dry erase markers, and more. Teachers often have to purchase these
supplies out of their own pockets. We plan to open the "PTSO Teacher Supply Closet"
again in the spring. Contact Melissa French at vp1@woodsonptso.org if you would like to make a donation to help our
awesome WTW teachers. Thank you for supporting the PTSO!

still has plenty of room for bricks for you to remember your special student. Individual
bricks cost: $100. Engraved bricks are intermixed with regular paver bricks. They
make great graduation presents for Seniors, or as a great legacy for all the
members of your family! Visit the Woodson PTSO website on the main page to download

Dear Woodson High School Community:
The Young Hearts Foundation is excited to announce a 7-week
fundraising initiative to raise money to support the Leukemia & Lymphoma
Society. This campaign, titled Students
of the Year, will run from Thursday, January 11th through Saturday, March 3rd
and will include many opportunities to raise funds while also providing
meaningful experiences to promote awareness of The Young Heart Foundation’s
mission.
The fundraising goal for this year is $30,000 locally and up to
$1,000,000 from high schools around the National Capital Area. Students
of the Year (SOY) are comprised of candidate groups of 1-3 students from high
schools around the National Capital Area.
The Young Hearts Foundation
is a club at Woodson High School
that works to provide financial and moral support to those affected by life
altering illnesses. Last year, a few
students from the club decided to run, representing our club and school in the
Students of the Year campaign. This is
the second year that members from our club are participating.
The Young Hearts began as a
club walking in the Light the Night walk, then developed into a foundation and
now a handful of the club members are participating in Students of the Year under
the same name. It’s truly amazing how
much we have accomplished in the past 18 years!
The SOY campaign is
comprised of the following:
Candidates- Catherine McBride and Natalie Goldstein
Team members- Elise Kent, Margeaux Townley, Sophie Grammen,

Girls
Basketball
Woodson
Girls Varsity Basketball posted a 2-1 record in a very busy week of conference
play. The Cavs wrapped up their long four-game road trip with a thrilling
come-from-behind 44-41 win at Robinson. All five starters contributed heavily,
with sophomore Abby Pesansky scoring 13 points and junior captain Natasha
Pacheco adding 10. Sophomore Sarah Wilson scored 9, junior captain Rachel
Shurberg added 7. Early in the fourth quarter Maggie McGuire hit a 3-pointer
and Sarah Wilson hit back to back buckets including a 3-pointer to put the Cavs
in the lead for the first time. Natasha Pacheco had a crucial and one drive as
well as late baskets by Rachel Shurberg and Maggie McGuire to seal the win. The
Cavs came right back the next night with a solid 45-35 win over South County,
holding off a three-point barrage by the Stallions in the 4th quarter. Junior
captain Natasha Pacheco was a dominant force, leading the way with a
career-high 20 points! The tired Cavs closed out the week with a tough 53-35
home loss to Fairfax. Abby Pesansky lead the way again with 12 points. Senior
captain Charisma Henry added 6 points, and some serious energy, off the bench. The
Cavs begin the second half of their conference schedule this week with a road
game at South County on Tuesday and are at home on Friday against Lake
Braddock.
