This
spring, a random sample of Colin Powell Elementary School
parents and guardians will be invited to complete an online feedback form about
Principal Luerssen. This feedback is
part of the regular performance evaluation process for principals in Fairfax
County Public Schools. Parents and guardians who are selected in the random
sample will receive an email or text message with a link to the FCPS Principal Evaluation Parent/Guardian
Feedback Form. This online form offers an opportunity to
provide anonymous feedback about how Principal Luerssen
demonstrates performance expectations, including instructional leadership,
school climate, management (Human Resources and Organization), communication
and community relations, and professionalism. Parents and guardians who are not
selected as part of the random sample for the official feedback process are
still always invited to share views and opinions with our school administrators.
Official online feedback will be collected between March 5 and March 16. If you receive an email or text message from FCPS Surveys, please
take a few minutes to complete the feedback form. Your opinions matter.
This is the 7th year that our Colin Powell
Elementary School community is proud to help fight childhood cancer by
supporting the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Pennies for Patients fundraiser
from Monday, February 26th to Friday, March 16th. Please
talk to your children about the importance of giving back and consider what
donation your family would be comfortable making. You may want to encourage
your children to work for it by helping around the house over the next few
weeks! All together, we have raised more than $30,000 as a school over the
first 6 years, and our SCA leaders have set a goal of raising $8,000 this
year.
We have two fundraising spirit days coming up to support
this effort.
-
Friday, March 9th students are
encouraged to “Team up Against Cancer” and dress as either a player on their
favorite sports team or as a superhero. All are encouraged to bring in a small
donation of $1 or the amount your family would like to donate.
-
Friday, March 16th students
will have a Spring Pajama Day, and are encouraged to bring in a donation of
whatever they can afford from a penny on up to support the fundraiser in
exchange for the comfort of PJs at school.
Each classroom has set their own fundraising goal, so ask
your child what theirs is and see what part you can contribute to fight
childhood cancer.
If you would
like to donate by check, please make checks payable to the Leukemia and
Lymphoma Society (LLS). Online donations can be made by visiting: http://events.lls.org/pages/nca/ColinPowellElementarySchool-2018
If you have any questions, please contact Laura Senturia (lesenturia@fcps.edu) or Missy Long (mdlong@fcps.edu).

The
Fairfax County Health Department (FCHD) employs school health aides and public
health nurses who provide school health services to the students in Fairfax
County Public Schools (FCPS). To determine the quality of these services, a
survey has been developed by the FCHD to be shared with all parents or
guardians and school staff members who interact with the school health rooms.
This may include principals, school counselors, and main office staff members.
The survey has been approved for distribution by the FCPS’ Internal Survey
Advisory Committee.
Electronic versions of the survey forms may be accessed
at:
Parent Survey (English): https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/FCPSParent2018
Parent Survey (Spanish): https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/2018SpanishP
The survey will take less than five minutes to complete
and will provide the FCHD with valuable information. Your participation
in this important endeavor is appreciated. The survey will remain open
through March 12, 2018.
