SOL -
REQUIRED SURVEY INFORMATION
Franklin
Middle School Parents,
Each Franklin
MS student is required to have a parent/guardian complete this survey regarding
SOL retakes: https://goo.gl/forms/6s6gcKmOOr2UYYBP2
Although SOLs
do not take place for several months, we are collecting parent permission now.
ALL STUDENTS MUST HAVE THIS FORM FILLED OUT
WHETHER YOU ARE GRANTING PERMISSION OR NOT, NO LATER THAN FRIDAY, JANUARY 26th.
The Virginia
Board of Education allows certain elementary and middle school students who
fail Standards of Learning (SOL) tests on their first attempt to retake the
test before the end of the school year. Retesting is available before the end
of the school year when a student failed his or her first test attempt by a
narrow margin (score of 375-399, with a score of 400 needed to pass).
Parent
permission is required for any retesting of the grade level SOL tests. If you
believe that your child would benefit from receiving a second opportunity
before the end of the school year to demonstrate his or her knowledge and
skills on the SOL test, please complete this permission form and return it to
your child’s school. A decision not to retest will not in any way impact your
child’s course grade or academic record.
You may fill
out this online survey OR print the attached form and send it to the main
office with your student, NO LATER THAN FRIDAY, JANUARY 26th .
Please contact Lea Fadden, Lea.Fadden@fcps.edu, with any questions.

FCPSOn and Technology Updates
Here are a few reminders about the care and
maintenance of your child's FCPSOn HP ProBooks.
-
Very
Important - Please make sure students
shutdown computers if sitting idle for long periods of time. This will
ensure a longer battery life and protects the cooling fan and other
computer components.
- Please make
sure students are charging computers each night.
- Remember, if
charger cable or case are lost or damaged, families are responsible for
reimbursing the school inorder to get a new one.
- Students can
now fix issues with audio and access to blackboard on their own by opening
up System Center from the Windows start menu
- Having
issues with connecting the HP Probook to your home network? FCPS is aware
of the issue and working to figure out a fix. As we learn more we
will let you know
For more information please visit the FCPSOn
section of our website by clicking HERE
Did you purchased a
device for your child this holiday season?
FCPS wants to help you support your child in
the online world. If the device is internet-enabled, please consider the
following tips and resources:
Educate yourself and your children.
Digital citizenship is learning process and
your child will need sustained support from parents and teachers. Visit bit.ly/fairfaxdigcit for
a fun and interactive parent-child course that can help your family start
conversations about navigating the online world.
Establish rules and expectations.
Have you thought about the rules you want to
establish with your child for setting up accounts and the privacy settings you
expect your child to use? What are your expectations and how will you
monitor your child’s online activities? Not sure where to start? Try
these tip sheets, media agreements,
and device contracts.
Help your child monitor and manage their screen
time.
It’s easy to spend hours on a device,
especially when it's new. Use these guidelines and strategies to
help your children learn to monitor and manage their screen time.
Discuss privacy settings and accounts.
Teach your child to protect their personal
information and model the use of privacy settings. Discuss why these
settings are important and teach them how to make privacy setting choices for
every app and service they use. This resource can
help you get started.
Give your child action steps.
Discuss potential situations that may arise
before they happen and give your child action steps. Do they know what to they
can do if cyber bullied, harassed, or if someone sends them something they
don’t want to see? Every difficult situation is an opportunity to help prepare
them for life beyond your home. These short parent
advice videos, which can be filtered by topic and age, can help you
identify action steps you can share with your child.
Teach your child to assess risks and make good
choices.
Online communication is public and permanent.
Talk with your children regularly and remind them that what they do online can
impact future opportunities. Their online reputation can also affect their
relationships in the face to face world.
