Teacher Exchange Program

Please join us in welcoming Mr. David Yu, our visiting guest teacher from Kyodong Elementary School in South Korea where he teaches grade 4 students.  He will be with us for the next 3 weeks.  GBE is proud to be part of the teacher exchange program between FCPS and the government of South Korea.  This past summer, Mrs. Beth Cahill, ESOL Teacher at GBE was one of three FCPS teachers selected to participate in the teacher exchange program.  Ms. Cahill visited the Gyeongnam schools and during her visit she taught in grades K-6.  We are happy to now extend the opportunity for Mr. Yu to learn about FCPS and GBE.

Message from the Clinic

With the Flu season here, we are sending out this health information in cooperation with the Fairfax County Health Department.  If your child is experiencing fever (100° F or above), vomiting, or diarrhea, please keep them home and avoid extracurricular activities for 24 hours after symptoms resolve.

Here are some steps to stay healthy this season:

•          Vaccinate your child and yourself against influenza this year and every year. It’s not too late!

•          Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after coughing or sneezing. Teach your children to wash their hands frequently with soap and water for 20 seconds.

•          Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue and if tissues are not available, cover coughs and sneezes with your upper sleeve (bent elbow).

•          Encourage children to avoid touching their eyes, nose, and mouth.  Germs spread this way.

•          Try to avoid close contact with individuals who are ill.

GI and flu-like illnesses frequently occur during the winter months and as we transition to spring. Please be sure your child is dressed appropriately for school as we go through these fluctuations in temperature. If you have questions, please consult your child’s physician or our school Public Health Nurse, Lynn Kiewel, at:  LOKiewel@fcps.edu
