Calendar Reminder: In observance of Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday, Fairfax County Public Schools and offices will be closed on Monday, January 15.
Ms. Harris and her class proudly show off their autograph books after first graders wrote personal narratives and celebrated with publishing parties.
Dear
Families,
After experiencing all the
snow, ice, cold, closures, and delays, it was great to get back in the swing of
learning! These interruptions can be difficult for students to transition from.
We are proud of how well our students were able to jump right back in and pick
up where they left off, with a little help from their awesome teachers. If you
follow us on Twitter, you saw many of the exciting projects that students have
been creating. Fun and educational activities are abundant throughout the
school, as are discussions about integrity, courage, and equality as we
approach the poignant holiday celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s
birthday.
And as hard as it is to
believe, the middle school transition meetings and tours are already beginning
for our 6th graders! Next week, we will have scheduled visits from Lanier and
Robinson, and tours of Rocky Run. As you may have heard, the School Board
unanimously voted last night to approve Lanier Middle School becoming an
Advanced Academics Level IV Center. This is very exciting news, and a wonderful
opportunity for our students as they continue their education beyond Willow
Springs. Please read below for details.
Enjoy
the long weekend,

FCPS Employee Awards Update
Congratulations Mrs. Carroll!
Fairfax Pyramid selected their Outstanding Teacher of the Year this week and we are thrilled to announce the winner is our very own third grade teacher, Mrs. Carroll! A well deserved congratulations to Mrs. Carroll for all she does each and every day to make Willow Springs the best it can possibly be. Mrs. Carroll will now move on to the Regional Level Panel for judging against the winners from other pyramids.
Lanier Middle School Shares Exciting News
On January 11th, our Fairfax County School Board
approved and designated an Advanced Academic Program (AAP) Center at Lanier
Middle School beginning in Fall 2018. Lanier’s
staff has spent the last two years preparing for our center-eligible students
to attend their base school, and ultimately, to remain together as they
progress from elementary school through high school: We are proud to say that we are
Fairfax…we are family.
The School Board adopted the following pupil assignment
plan:
- Fall 2018:
Lanier-based rising 7th and 8th grade AAP center-eligible students
currently assigned to Rocky Run Middle School would be afforded the option to
attend the new Lanier MS Level IV Center or their current Level IV center at
Rocky Run MS.
- Fall 2019: Lanier-based rising 7th grade
students currently assigned to Rocky Run MS will be required to attend Lanier’s
Level IV center. Rising 8th grade students in fall 2019 would be afforded the
option to attend Lanier Level IV center or their current Level IV center at
Rocky Run MS.
- Fall 2020: Lanier-based rising 7th and 8th grade
center-eligible students will be required to attend the Lanier Level IV Center.
Parents of rising seventh-grade students, please join us for
our upcoming Curriculum Night, scheduled for February 1st from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., to learn more about our outstanding
instructional programs, award-winning electives and after-school program, and
meet many of our staff members. You and
your student will leave our school energized and excited about his or her
important transition to middle school, and you will see firsthand why we
#soar2excellence!
Sincerely,
Erin Lenart
