School Updates:

Congratulations to the staff, students, parents, and guardians of Keene Mill Elementary School on the National Blue Ribbon School nomination for 2018-2019. FCPS and the Virginia Department of Education have nominated our school for this prestigious award. The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program recognizes schools whose students achieve at very high levels and schools making significant progress in closing academic achievement gaps among different groups of students. 


    Wellness Committee Meeting: Please join us in the library at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 25, as we continue to discuss ways we can promote student wellness.  Feel free to bring your children with you.  We won't have childcare, but children are welcome to read or play games in the story pit.


      Last Call! Level IV Advanced Academic Center Parent Referrals and additional screening materials are due by January 12, 2018 for students enrolled in grades 2-6 who are not currently identified as level IV eligible.  Please turn in paper copies to the KMES office addressed to Patricia Fawcett, Advanced Academic Resource Teacher.  If you have questions Mrs. Fawcett can be reached at pafawcett@fcps.edu.  Additional information can also be found on the Advanced Academic website


      PTA Updates:

      Winter Session Enrichment Programs January – April 2018: Stem exCEL returns with two exciting classes (January-March): Minecraft Modding and Graphic Design.  The Chess Club will be returning (January-March) to teach the basics to those who are new to the game and advanced strategies for more seasoned players. In addition, the exciting Theatre Program will be back (February-April).       Student Spelling Bee January 9th and 10th! The KMES PTA invites students to be a part of the KMES 3rd Annual SPELLING BEE at KMES! This will be a fun-filled opportunity for students to enhance their vocabulary, memory, comprehension, communication skills, and self-confidence.The  Jr. Spelling Bee for grades K-2 will be on January 9th at 6:30 p.m.,  and the Spelling Bee for grades 3-6 will be on January 10th at 6:30 p.m. Look for a flyer in your child's Thursday Folder and REGISTER HERE .


      SAVE THE DATE for Family Science Night! The KMES PTA is bringing The Children's Science Center and their Family Science Night Program to KMES on Thursday, February 1, 2017. Students will have the opportunity to participate in hands-on experiments specially designed to provoke an interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) subjects. We need volunteers to help at the various stations. Volunteers will receive 2 FREE Raffle Tickets for a chance to win a family 4 pack to the Children's Science Center.
