Ms. Kavulich, 2nd grade

Kara Kavulich is a 2nd grade teacher. This is her 2nd year at Forest Edge. Prior to FEES, she taught in Detroit Public Schools for a year and worked as a long term substitute in 4th grade here at FEES. Kara is from Michigan and attended Michigan State University where she received her Bachelor in Elementary Education with a specialization in TESOL and Language Arts. When Kara isn’t teaching, you can find her reading, running, cooking, hiking, or exploring DC with her fiancé. She also loves to spend time back in Michigan with friends and family.

Do You Know About Logical Consequences?

Forest Edge is a Responsive Classroom school, part of the philosophy of Responsive Classroom is using logical consequences as our behavioral approach. Logical consequences are a powerful and respectful way of helping students take responsibility for their actions. Logical consequences are always related to the child’s behavior. The belief underlying the use of logical consequences is that with reflection and practice children will want to do better. We use reflection sheets to support student in fixing their mistakes in a thoughtful and reflective way, so they feel empowered to change their choices. You can read more about logical consequences here: https://www.responsiveclassroom.org/punishment-vs-logical-consequences/
