6pm-8pm. During Curriculum Night, parents of rising 9th
graders and their students will attend a specialized program tailored to
provide information for families and students new to high school. You will also
have the opportunity to meet with faculty members, network with other parents

at Curriculum Night will help guide conversations with your students about
their course selections.
If you
would like to read more about how to make the most of Curriculum Night, please
refer to our website: http://www.fcps.edu/FairfaxHS/parents/events/curriculum.html.

New Year, it is now time to start planning for next year. We cordially
invite you and your child to our Curriculum Night Open House on Wednesday,
January 10th from 7:00-8:30 PM (snow date is January 17th). Teachers will be available to answer questions about core and elective classes.
This is a great opportunity to learn about the courses offered at Westfield in
order to assist your child with class selections for next year.
At 6:15 PM, for those interested, an orientation about special education services will be held in the Lecture Hall. At 6:45 PM in the auditorium, we will offer an overview of
the course registration process and other information for rising 9th
graders and their parents. We look forward to seeing you at our Curriculum Night Open House on Wednesday, January 10th (snow date is January 17th).
Centreville High School Curriculum Night
Centreville HS Curriculum Night is Wednesday, January 10th. At 6:45 PM in the auditorium, we will

Deadline
for AAP Level IV Referrals for 7th Grade Students
Parents or guardians of
seventh grade students may initiate the full-time AAP Level IV screening
process by completing and submitting an Advanced Academic Programs Level IV Referral Form to your child’s school
counselor no later than January 12, 2018. No late
referrals will be accepted. AAP Level IV services are available to students
in grades 3-8. Students may be found eligible for full-time placement in
AAP Level IV Center classes through a central selection process and receive a
highly challenging instructional program in Science, Social Studies and
English. Multiple criteria are reviewed by a central selection committee
to determine eligibility for all FCPS AAP services. Information about AAP services available at the middle school level may be
found on the FCPS AAP website. If you have any
questions, please contact your child's counselor.
Attendance Monitoring and Intervention
New VDOE attendance reporting requires certain actions when
students have accrued five, six, or seven full-day unexcused
absences. Beginning November 8, 2017, weekly attendance calls will be made
to parents whose students have accrued five or more unexcused absences,
requesting that parents contact the school to develop an attendance
plan.
Parents should fill out the Request for
Prearranged Absence Form (available in the main office and on the Rocky Run Website) prior to absences of 5 or more days. Based on FCPS Regulation 2234.7, absences
for "family and/or other vacations, child care situation, missed school bus,
non-school-related activity, or other reasons unacceptable to the principal or
his or her designee", are unexcused. FCPS encourages family trips
during scheduled school vacations and strongly discourages such trips during
the school year because these absences interrupt the continuity of learning. Student
absences for chronic or long-term illness may require medical
documentation.
Students with a prearranged absence will be responsible for assignments, homework and tests. If the absence is not approved and the student
does not attend school, the absence will be unexcused. Teachers are not
obligated to provide make-up work or to administer missed tests.
According to state law, any student absent from
school for 15 consecutive days regardless of reason will be withdrawn from
school. Parents will need to reenroll their students on their own.
Please contact your child's counselor or an
administrator if you have any questions.
Positivity Project - Kindness
What is kindness? Our students watched this video and discussed empathy, kindness and how they can bring more kindness into their community. We hope you can continue this conversation at home and explore the many ways we can practice kindness in this holiday season!

The same login credentials will be used to access both the SIS and FCPS 24-7 systems. More information about SIS Parent Account is available HERE. If you need a new activation code, please contact our Student Services Assistant, Ms. Chavez at CACoreasChav@fcps.edu.
SY 2017-18 SIS Weekly Progress Reports will not be sent during certain weeks and you can find the dates HERE.
