Parent Information Session

Mrs. Wheeler, Oak Hill ES Advanced Academic Resource Teacher, will hold a parent information session on Thursday, December 7, from 9:00-10:00 am in our school café.  She will share what documentation parents may provide for a 2nd grade pool file or a 2nd-6th grade parent referral file.  **CogAt scores are not expected back until early January.  At that time, 2nd grade parents will be notified if their child is in the screening pool.  If the child is not in the pool, parents may submit a referral.  Pool and referral files are screened at the same time in the same manner.  The hard deadline to turn in referrals/supporting documentation for 2nd grade pool files or 2nd – 6th grade referral files is close of business January 12, 2018.  Parents should not wait for scores to come back if they want their child screened for Level IV services.

On our Oak Hill website, you will find Mrs. Wheeler’s parent presentation from September 22, 2017, as well as a link to a video she created that guides you through the Advanced Academic website.

New Girl Scout Troops

Oak Hill has two new Girl Scout troops.  Troop 56038 is a Daisy troop for girls in K and 1st grade.  Troop 56040 is a Brownie troop for 2nd and 3rd graders.  If your daughter is interested in joining you can sign her up at gscnc.org and click join in the upper right hand corner.  You can also contact Hillary Driscoll  troop organizer at hillarydriscoll@gmail.com or Cathleen Murphy at cmurphy@gscnc.org or 703-372-4345 for help joining.

Geography Bee

Is your student a Geo Genius?  Oak Hill’s 2018 Geography Bee for grades 4-6 is coming in January!  Teachers will be holding preliminary rounds during the next several weeks.  Students may find free study resources or download the Geo Bee Challenge app at NatGeoBee.org.  Check out the latest study guide "How to Ace the National Geographic Bee: Official Study Guide, 5th Edition" here.  In addition, you can practice Bee questions with Amazon’s Alexa by activating the skill Geo Quiz.  Best of luck in the coming weeks to all Oak Hill fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students!  If you have questions feel free to contact Oak Hill’s Geography Bee Coordinator, Stephanie Sheridan, at srsheridan@fcps.edu.

Festive Winter Wear

Spirit Day- On Wednesday, December 13th, staff and students are invited to wear their most festive winter clothing.  We are all getting excited for our winter break and thought this was a fun way to get us in the spirit for the upcoming holidays.  We hope to see many staff and students dressed in festive favorite winter colors.  Some examples include toboggans, snowmen t-shirts/sweaters, and/or fuzzy socks.
