CES Family Bulletin #14

Weekly photos

Dear CES Families,

We hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and Thanksgiving break. Our students did an amazing job transitioning back to school after the break.  These next two weeks before the winter break will be busy with learning and celebrations. We are looking forward to our winter strings, band, and chorus concerts. Also, we are excited for our school spirit nights at SweetFrog, Barnes and Noble, and Ciro's. We would love to have you join us and celebrate the wonderful things happening at CES.

Student Attendance

Students form important habits early, as they begin to develop responsibility to come to school on time and be prepared and ready to learn. Parents or guardians need to encourage good habits so that students are ready to learn.

Virginia requires that all children between the ages of five and eighteen be enrolled in school and attend on a daily basis. Any student who fails to report to school for a total of five scheduled school days (unexcused) for the school year may be referred to a school attendance officer for further action. When a referral is received, the school attendance officer will attempt to interview the student, parent, and other relevant parties to develop a plan to resolve the attendance issue. A student who is absent from school for 15 consecutive days or more is withdrawn from school and must officially register again upon his or her return to school.

Parents or guardians should call the attendance line in the morning before attendance is taken, to let CES know of any absence. Please leave a detailed reason for the absence with the message. Thank you for your collaboration with ensuring our students' academic success!

Attendance
Students who attend 90% or more of the school year are more likely to graduate from high school on time.

P2

This week students learned about Humility/Modesty. Humble people have an accurate (not underestimated) sense of their abilities and achievements. They hold the capacity to acknowledge their mistakes and limitations, and are open to advice and new ideas. They do not show off their possessions or accomplishments.

Humility and modesty are often characterized as synonymous with shy or meek. This is false. True humility is a sign of strength; it is a quiet confidence in who you are. It requires an honest self-reflection on your strengths and weaknesses, and self-control over ego, arrogance, and vanity. It encapsulates a person’s feelings, thoughts, and actions. It includes resistance to false modesty or the “humble brag.”
