AAP – LEVEL IV REFFERALS DUE JANUARY 12, 2018
Advanced Academic Programs (AAP) parent referrals for
full-time level IV service screenings (grades 2 – 6) are DUE on or before Friday, January 12, 2018.
Referrals and other screening materials should be given to Tamara Karas,
Advanced Academic Resource Teacher (AART) on or before January 12, 2018.

HOUR OF CODE
The Hour of Code is coming! During the week of
December 4-10, Fairfax Villa students in grades K-6 will once again learn the
basics of coding through fun interactive coding games. You can find more
information about the Hour of Code and resources for you to use at home on our Student Links page on
the Fairfax Villa website.
NOVEMBER IS FAMILY INVOLVEMENT MONTH
The Governor of Virginia, Terence R.
McAuliffe, the Virginia Board of Education and the Virginia Department of
Education recognize November 2017 as Family Involvement in Education
Month. Research on family engagement suggests that when schools, families
and communities support each other, students of all backgrounds and ability
levels achieve at the highest levels. The importance of parental and
family support is highlighted during the month of November as we celebrate and
strengthen family-school partnerships together.
To support schools with best practices in
November and year-round, the Office of Professional Learning and Family
Engagement has an array of materials for schools and families.

to effectively engage families, Family & School Partnerships is here to
assist you.
FAIRFAX VILLA ES
AWARDS PROGRAM
The FCPS employee
awards season is here and Fairfax Villa invites our community and staff to be
part of the nominating process for our school. This year, there are
several categories for awards.
The following nominations are due by 4:00pm on
December 1, 2017:
- Outstanding
New Teacher (years 1-3 of teaching)
- Outstanding
Teacher/Librarian (4 or more years of teaching)
- Outstanding
Support Employee (includes administrative assistant, bus driver, bus
attendant, custodian, food service staff, instructional assistant, office
staff, public health attendant, public health training assistant,
student information assistant)
- Outstanding
Hourly Employee (includes parent liaison and other hourly employees)
- Outstanding
Leader (includes assistant principal, counselor, psychologist, social
worker, speech and language pathologist, and TSSpec/SBTS)
- Outstanding
New Principal (years 1-3)
Before nominating one
of our staff members, be sure to notify that person and get his/her agreement
to the nomination.
The initial
nominations are submitted through a google form that can be accessed from our
school website or from the links below. This initial nomination will go to our
school awards committee which will choose our school winner from the submitted
nominations. Nominations for Outstanding New Principal will be sent directly to
the Region 5 committee.
If the person you are
nominating is chosen to be our school winner, you will be notified and asked to
complete a more detailed and comprehensive nomination packet that will go to
the Woodson Pyramid committee as the official nomination.
After sending our
winners to the Woodson Pyramid, the pyramid winners go to Region 5 and, from
the region winners, the overall FCPS winners will be announced at the annual
FCPS Honors gala in the spring.

Winter AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES –REGISTRATION RUNS
THROUGH DEC.7 AT MIDNIGHT!!
Registration for Winter After-school Activities will
run through midnight on December 7th. A flyer will be going home in the Tuesday
folder with information on how to register.
Class descriptions are on the back.
Please register early as classes that do not make minimum numbers will
be cancelled. If you need help with the
registration process, we are happy to help.

PAPA JOHN’S PIZZA CARDS
Back by
popular demand - Do you like pizza? We
do, too! The PTA is selling Papa John’s
Pizza Cards for $15.00 each. This allows
you to buy one large pizza at regular menu price and get the second one free! One use of this card and it has paid for
itself. AND, it is good for an entire
year – through December 2018. This card
is good for many locations in VA, MD, DC & WV. We do have a complete list of locations if
you need it. We will be selling these
cards through December 15. They make
great holiday gifts, as well. Please
check out the flyer in the Tuesday folder or see the flyer on the PTA website.
THE
STUDENT DIRECTORY IS HERE!
The
Fairfax Villa Student Directory is now available! This directory is included with your PTA
membership. PTA Membership is just $10.00 and you can join at any time. If you
are not a PTA member, you may request the directory for $5.00. Contact us at villapta@gmail.com to request a copy.
UPCOMING EVENTS
BUFFALO WING WINGS RESTAURANT FUNDRAISER
This will be happening on Wednesday, Dec. 13 from
4-8pm. More information will be coming.
PTA MEETING
No meeting in December – Happy Holidays!
The next meeting will be Wednesday, January 17 at 7:00 pm
in the Library. We will have Special
Guest Luann Hoyseth from Thomas Jefferson High School talking about the high
school and STEAM.

raise money for Fairfax Villa!
MEMBERSHIP IN PTA
We are always accepting new members! It is just $10 per person ($5 for
teachers/staff) to join. All funds go
back into programs that benefit the students and staff of Fairfax Villa. You can pick up a membership form in the
