Dear CES Families,
We have much to be thankful for here at CES; like our staff, community, and especially our wonderful students. This week we learned about Eddie the Service dog, created strong paper tables at the Family STEAM Night, talked with friends in Costa Rica, and hosted a huge Thanksgiving meal! Thank you to everyone who came today to have Thanksgiving lunch with their children. We absolutely love having you and encourage you to volunteer in our school. We are incredibly grateful for our wonderful PTA and cafeteria staff for preparing and hosting a wonderful meal.
CES is excited to announce that we are a Founding Member of FCPS IT's Digital Technology Cohort to support students in the development of skills required to be successful digital media creators. Through this cohort we plan to
transform our library into a Digital Learning Space. Stay tuned for updates on our plans and the process in the near future!

Special Guest
Today we had a very special guest visit us for our Thanksgiving Luncheon! It was great to have Mr. Young back walking the halls of CES. For those of you who do not know who Mr. Young is, he was the previous principal of CES. Mr. Young was and is an amazing leader that inspires us all to be better people and educators. Students, parents, and staff were very excited to see him and say hello.

Calendar Reminder: Schools to Close Two Hours
Early on November 22
All Fairfax County public schools will close two hours early on
Wednesday, November 22, in an effort to help school buses avoid the
increased traffic related to the Thanksgiving holiday. This policy has been in
effect for the past few years. Schools are closed on November 23 and 24.
Classes will resume on November 27.
This school year, students will be released early on the last day
of each quarter, the day before Thanksgiving break, and the last day of school
in June. See the 2017-18
calendar.
Until Thanksgiving, the students are learning about gratitude. Gratitude is
the quality of feeling and expressing thankfulness and appreciation. It is an affirmation
that there is goodness in other people and the world, and that we have received
that goodness. A leading expert, Robert Emmons, calls gratitude a
“relationship-strengthening emotion because it requires us to see how we’ve
been supported and affirmed by other people.”
Design Changes Now in Effect for CES
As of November 7, the CES website using the new Drupal platform has a slightly different look, along
with some shortened link terms. A second, blue navigation bar (see example
above) has been added to the homepage of the site. This will make finding the
links quick and easy. The wording for the link to the Student Information
System (SIS) has been shortened to SIS, and the wording for the link to Google
Apps for Education has been changed to G Suite (due to the product being
renamed by Google). The same blue navigation bar will remain at the bottom of
all FCPS web pages, but with the new, shortened terms.
Please note: The blue bar at the top of the home page will not be visible on
mobile devices.
Want to Earn Some Extra Money? Consider Becoming a CES Substitute
Did you know that Fairfax County is experiencing a substitute shortage? More importantly, did you know that Centreville frequently has unfilled substitute positions? Qualifications to be a substitute teacher include loving children and completion of 60 hours of college courses. Instructional Assistant substitutes need a high school diploma. All applicants must have two letters of recommendation. For more information, please visit this website: https://www.fcps.edu/careers/career-opportunities/substitute-teaching
