Schoolwide
we collected over 500 pounds of candy that we were able to donate to troops
through Operation Gratitude!
From the Principal's Desk:
This
season provides so many opportunities for us to join together to recognize all
the things we are thankful for and how we can contribute to our school and
community. Let’s continue to find ways
to give back to our community so we model what we value the most. Our SCA and Jr. Optimist Club works hard to
find, promote, and complete service learning projects throughout the year. It is such a pleasure to see our students
taking such an active role in providing service to the community. Our families donated over 500 pounds of candy
to the troops last week. In addition, we
are coordinating a canned food drive now through December 1st. Please see below for details.
I
want you to know that we plan to give our students a break during these upcoming
holidays. Our teachers will not assign homework, projects, papers,
reading, and/or studying specifically to be done over Thanksgiving or Winter break. Students and teachers need breaks from the
many demands of school life. A healthy balance is critical to everyone’s
well-being. Our entire Madison pyramid are in the spirit of honoring family
traditions as we simultaneously address issues of student stress.
We
encourage you to take time during the Thanksgiving break to share stories and
discuss the many things you are thankful for as a family and as part of the Louise
Archer community. We feel
fortunate for the wonderful staff members, families, and friends we have here
at Louise Archer! We wish
all of you a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday with your family!
Positivity Project Update
The Positivity Project is in full swing here at Louise
Archer. During October, we focused on the character traits of perspective,
teamwork, and creativity. Students had lots of great discussions and fun
activities related to these character strengths. The month of November started
off with the character trait of bravery. We even had our first combination
lesson that included Mrs. Ruminski’s 5th grade class talking about
bravery with Ms. Stroud’s kindergarten class. We will look forward to doing
more multi grade level activities in the future! This week and next week will
focus on the trait of gratitude. It is a fitting time to talk about gratitude
with the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday. In addition to their classroom lessons,
students will be participating in a school wide activity. We will have a
gratitude tree outside of the cafeteria and each student will be given a leaf.
On each leaf, students will write something they are grateful for and display
it on the tree. We can’t wait to see the finished product! Please continue to
ask your child about the Positivity Project at home each week, it is a great
conversation starter for the dinner table.
Upcoming SCA Project

Non-Perishable Food Drive
Who is the food for?
- Food For Others – local food bank

How will it run? - In order to collect as much food as we can to help feed those in need
in our community, we are setting up this year’s food drive in a boys vs. girls
competition. Students should bring their donations into school and put them in
the box of their choosing at the front of the school. Each day we will count up
and see who is in the lead.
What should you bring? - Non-expired, non-perishable foods.
Some of the most needed items include: mac and cheese, granola/breakfast bars and plain crackers
like Ritz or Saltines, canned meats, canned pasta, peanut butter.
