Traffic, Parking and Construction
Updates
Parking:
South
Lakes HS has 5 parking areas:
- Stadium side: mostly student parking, reserved
spaces
- Lower lot: a combination of staff and student
parking all reserved
- Blacktop: reserved parking and visitor spots shared
with Hughes MS
- Flagpole side:
reserved staff spaces in the parking lot & a few visitor spots in
row closest to door #1/flagpole
- New front spaces:
along the island on the outside lane adjacent to Seahawk Drive is staff
parking; spaces on the inside lane closer to the school (# 250-286) and those
near door #2 (# 287-302) are visitor parking.
NOTE: these spaces are numbered per county requirement for now and signage to indicate visitor spots is on order. Buses also limit access to these spaces at the opening (7:30-8:05) and closing (2:30-3:10) of school. If you park here during these times you may get blocked in.
Traffic:
Our kiss-and-ride lot is on the
stadium side of the building. Parents should pull up as far as possible to
maximize the number of cars able to drop off at a time. All cars exiting the lot need to turn right.
If you need to head east, it is suggested you use Soapstone to Ridge Heights an
alternative back to South Lakes Drive. Hughes MS is already in session and
Tersest doesn’t begin until after 9AM.
Drop off along Seahawk Drive or in
the staff parking lot is not permitted. Staff have assigned spots and when they
are used for dropping off it creates issues when the person assigned is trying
to park. Additionally, stopping inside Seahawk Drive is backing traffic up onto
South Lakes Drive. Please use the designated kiss and ride lane.
Please note that the bus loop lane,
the roadway closest to the school, continues to be one way traffic. It is also
an emergency lane so cars should never be parked there. Please use the new
visitor spots (numbered 250-286; 287-302).
Construction
Updates:
The county reports that they are on
schedule for the addition to be done around winter break. We are looking to transition into the new
space at the semester break (Jan. 26-29th). This gives a bit of a window for any last
minute fixes and time for furniture to be installed prior to the move. The move
will impact a number of teachers, not just those who are currently in the
trailers, as more classroom and science lab areas become available.
Long-range Planning:
12/18-1/1 – Winter Break, Offices
Closed 12/25 – 1/1
1/10 – Curriculum Night, 6:30PM,
Theatre, Main Hall, Lecture Hall

1/31 – Science Fair
3/26-30 – Spring Break
6/13 – Graduation, Eagle Bank Arena,
7:30PM
