Haycock Hello 11-10-17

Haycock PTA Buying Students Lunch

The Haycock PTA is thanking the parents and students of Haycock for purchasing over 400 bricks during our Brick-A-Thon.  The PTA will be offering pizza to all students on Wednesday, November 15 during lunch.  This means pizza is available for all students to eat on Wednesday.  If your child does not want to eat pizza or is allergic to pizza, the cafeteria is still serving lunch on Wednesday.  You are also welcome to pack a lunch for your child if you wish to do so.  Eating pizza is optional.  Thank you to the Haycock PTA for such a gracious gift.

Madison City Schools Visit

On Tuesday, November 14, members of the Madison City School's leadership team and curriculum team will be visiting Haycock.  During their visit, they will be visiting classrooms and speaking with staff.

Due to our hard working staff and their dedication to being the best, we have the opportunity to showcase our staff.  It will be my pleasure, as the principal of Haycock, to showcase our great school to Madison City Schools.

Progress Reports

Progress reports will be sent home with all students on Tuesday, November 14. Grades will be available online on Saturday, November 11.  To access your child(ren)'s grades via Student Information System (SIS) Parent, visit the SIS Information page on the FCPS public website.  On that page, you can find links to:

  • Log in to your SIS Parent account,
  • Register for an account if you don’t have one, or

Speakers on Affinities/Areas of Expertise Sought for READ IN DAY

The Winter READ IN Day is December 15th.  Our focus for the READ IN is always reading stamina and volume. This is a day when students spend reading and enjoying books, a prelude to vacation days we hope will be filled with reading (and many good things!).   An additional focus for the READ IN Day is student affinities, an area of strength and interest.  We will host topic book clubs, where students will have opportunity to teach partners about their learning.

In addition, we hope to welcome parent speakers to discuss their area of expertise, strength and occupation they love. In the past, topics included:  aviation, universal design for learning, editing books, authoring articles and texts, university teaching with focused proficiency in an academic topic, engineering and more.  We are planning on 30 minute sessions for students with similar interests.   If you are able to come to Haycock on Friday, December 15th, and can speak with a student group, please e-mail our reading specialist, Barbara Bosworth, to indicate your interest and optimal times to come.  Her e-mail address is:  bybosworth@fcps.edu   We are grateful for your help to support our affinities program by sharing your expertise and excitement for learning.

(Haycock students study an area of passion and interest, an affinity.  By reading in their topic of interest, they increase their background knowledge, vocabulary and learn how to learn.  Parents can support children’s learning through library visits for books, or museum/other field trips to augment the child’s learning.)
