Kiss & Ride Procedures

Dear Chesterbrook Families,

During this time of construction, please consider using the bus service as a means of transportation since our school is slated for 100% busing of students.  However, for those of you choosing to use the Kiss and Ride, please continue to adhere to safety procedures throughout the process.  We need your continued cooperation in order for Kiss & Ride to run efficiently and safely for students.  If you are short on time, you are always welcome to park in a legal parking space to expedite your exit.

Here is a list of common violations:

  • No Taking In or Discharging of Passengers on a Highway: -This violation occurs when parents drop off/pick-up their students by pulling to the curb/shoulder of a travel lane to drop off/pick up their student. Vehicles can only take in or discharge passengers when vehicles are pulled to the curb/shoulder in a legal parking lane.
  • No Parking within 10’ of a Driveway: 82-5-1(a)(2)
  • No Parking within 30’ of a Stop Sign: 82-5-1(a)(7)
  • No Parking in or within 20’ of a Crosswalk: 82-5-1(a)(5)
  • No Parking within 30’ of a Bus Stop: 82-5-40
  • No Parking within 15’ of a Fire Hydrant: 82-5-1(a)(4)
  • No Parking within 20’ of an Intersection: 82-5-1(a)(3)

KIRBY ROAD

1. The bold areas on the map indicate NO PARKING, NO DROP OFF, and NO PICK UP on Kirby Road.

2. There are NO crossing guards stationed on Kirby.  Teachers are there to help monitor safety of students crossing with their adult.  Fairfax County regulations prohibit our teachers from stopping traffic.

KISS-N-RIDE LOOP

1. Students will ONLY be picked up from the loop.  They may not walk to your car unsupervised.

2. Drivers must stay inside their vehicle.  Do not get out of your car.  Staff or a safety patrol can assist your student.  Roll down your window and ask for help.

3. Students should enter and exit the car on the passenger side only.

4. Staff and Patrols are there for supervision, support, and in case a student needs help.  Students should quickly enter and exit cars unassisted if possible.

5. During Pick-Up, students are to stay on the sidewalk by trailers, not in grass, or by the picnic tables.

6. Parents should not pass other cars in the loop, unless directed to do so.

7. The plastic Yellow Safety men should not be removed by drivers to pass cars in the loop.

8. Green Slips allow students to take other arrangements home.  Without a Green Slip, students must ride with their assigned driver - No exceptions.

9. Please set a positive example of behavior for our students by not honking.

10. If a car is waiting and holding up the line for a LONG time they will be asked to park in the lot and wait for their child at the sidewalk by the trailers.

11. Once all buses have left, any students remaining will be brought to the office.

12. Remember, we all want to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our students.  Please cooperate and help our community provide a safe environment for your child and all children at Chesterbrook.

Notices:
*Failure to follow driving and parking laws such as misuse of handicap parking and no parking zones may result in receiving a ticket and/or towing of vehicle by Fairfax County Police.
