Depression Screening

The counseling department will conduct a depression awareness program and screening for our 10th grade students as a part of our Oakton mental health initiatives. This program will take place through 10th grade English classes on November 27th and 28th. The goals of this program are to educate students on the signs and symptoms of depression, to let students know what to do if they have concerns about themselves or a peer, and to connect students who may need support with resources inside and outside of our school.
A letter with information about this program will be mailed home to all sophomores. Included in this letter is an Opt-Out form. If you do not want your student to participate in the depression awareness program and screening, please return the Opt-Out form to Laura Gray in the school counseling office by Monday, November 6th. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s counselor.

Canteen needs your help!

The after school Concessions stand (Canteen) needs your help!!! The Canteen is open every day as soon as the bell rings at 2:55 for the students to stop by and grab a healthy snack before heading off to games, practices, and after school activities. We are open until about 3:45. The Canteen is located in the Concessions stand across from the Gym. We are in need of more volunteers to work one day a week, every other week, or even just once a month. This is a fun way to interact with the kids as they get out of school and have just a short time before heading off to their activities. Please consider volunteering!!
Contact jane-houston@verizon.net for further info. Thank you!

Latin Club November Events

"Salvete omnes! The next Latin Club meeting is November 15th, after school in room 251. We will be conducting a food drive from today until November 18th. Students can drop goods off in the boxes outside of room 251; goods will be donated to the Richmond Food Bank as well as used during VJCL convention to recreate a GIANT Colosseum! The school with the most food donated wins an award as well. VJCL convention is Sunday, November 19th. We will be leaving the school at 6am so make sure you're on time! All VJCL participants are reminded that they MUST submit their FCPS Emergency Medical Form and their Convention form to Magistra Moore by the 19th or you CAN'T GO, even if you have paid. Gratias et bonam fortunam as you finish off the first quarter!"
