New Fees for High School Students: Extracurricular Activities and AP/IB Tests
As part of FCPS' FY 2018 Approved Budget, FCPS has adopted new fees for high school students: an extracurricular activity fee and Advanced Placement (AP)/International Baccalaureate (IB) test fees. High school students participating in one or more extracurricular school activities will be required to pay a nonrefundable $50 activity fee each year. Extracurricular activities include athletics and clubs for which no academic credit or grade is assessed. Fees will also be charged for students who take the test at the end of Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate courses. FCPS will pay for the first six tests taken by each student over the course of their academic career in FCPS. Learn more.

School Safety and Threat Assessment Training Modules
Fairfax County Public Schools has a well-established policy and protocol for responding to threats of violence in the schools. To help parents and older students learn more about the role they can play in keeping schools safe, we have collaborated with the Youth Violence Project of the Curry School of Education, University of Virginia to develop short videos with useful information. These brief modules were developed for parents and children aged 12 and up, and you may want to watch the student video with your child to answer any questions which may arise. To access these modules go to www.schoolthreatassessment.com and use parent code pgvsdt and student code sy8zk2 as a password.

Expunging of HS Credit Courses taken in middle school (9th grade only)
In accordance with Virginia state regulations, FCPS Regulation 2408 permits parents of students who take a high school credit-bearing course in middle school to request that the grade be omitted from the student's high school transcript and the student not earn high school credit for the course. Since parents/guardians must make this request no later than the end of the first nine weeks of the school year following completion of the course, only families of 9th grade students are eligible to make this request. Click here for guidelines and the procedures for expunging grades for high school courses taken in middle school, including the required form.
The deadline for 9th grade requests to expunge a high school credit-bearing course from 8th grade is Friday, November 3, 2017.
Please contact your school counselor for additional information.
