End of the Quarter & Report Cards

November 3rd is the end of first quarter and a two hour early closing for students.  Parents and students are encouraged to review their grade progress on ParentVue and StudentVue.  Parents/guardians may access student’s grades, attendance and other information through the SIS ParentVue Account.  Information on setting up a SIS Parent Account is located on the South Lakes Homepage https://southlakeshs.fcps.edu/ (search Student Information System).  If you do not have an activation letter/code, please contact Mrs. O’Keefe in the Student Services Office at 703-715-4504 or seokeefe@fcps.eduStudents are encouraged to use Seahawk Seminar time and Wednesday late bus days to catch up on any missing work and to seek extra help if needed.

A letter went home last week that we are no longer mailing report cards due to county budget cuts. We are going to provide students a hard copy of their report card on Nov. 13th in their first period classes. Be sure to ask your student to see their report card or view grades on ParentVue.

Extra Help & Late Buses

South Lakes has late buses on Wednesdays. This is the day that many clubs meet afterschool and teachers should be available for help.  Many teachers stay after other days if students have their own transportation or can take the Fairfax Connector bus (get a student pass to ride free – forms in the main office; more info at https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/connector/student_pass.htm ).

Did you know SLHS has a Writing Center?  The Writing Center is open to all students afterschool on Wednesdays in the library.  The writing center can assist with pre-writing through final editing of written assignments. The program is student run with supervision from a group of teachers.

SLHS Peer Tutoring Club is also available afterschool on Wednesdays in room 222. Come by to get help in a number of subject from 3:10- 4:30PM.

Starting last week (10/16), students were permitted to move during Seahawk Seminar to see another teacher, with permission from their assigned teacher. There is a pass system students have learned about. This is a great time for students to get extra help, make up a short quiz, etc… The library is also open during most seminar periods with a pass system in place there as well.
