CES Family Bulletin #8

Dear CES Families,

Wednesday, October 25th will be the first Principal Partnership Summit. We will meet in room 100 @ 7:00. All are welcome to attend and learn more about the programs/events that occur at CES. This month we will cover parental involvement, The Positivity Project and Parent-Teacher Conferences. At the conclusion of the summit, there will be a Q & A opportunity. Research has shown that parent/guardian knowledge and involvement in school increases student academic gains, so we hope you will consider attending.

We had a great Family STEAM Night hosted by Thomas Jefferson High School. Participants had the opportunity to challenge themselves at several different stations. Thank you to Mrs. Settlemyre and Mrs. Hoyseth for organizing and running this wonderful night!

Last week our students focused on the trait of Team Work/Citizenship. These two words are grouped together as one character strength because they are inextricably linked, which is important to understand. Teamwork is the ability and willingness to place overall group success as a higher priority than individual achievement. Citizenship is a willingness to work towards the common good as opposed to one’s own self-interest.

Next week our students will continue to focus on the character trait of Creativity.

School Bond Referendum to Be on November 7 Ballot

A school bond referendum will be on the general election ballot Tuesday, November 7. Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Residents of Fairfax County may vote if they are 18 years or older on Election Day and have registered to vote 22 days prior to the election (by Monday, October 16, at 5 p.m.).

Bond sales, a form of long-term borrowing, are used to finance the building and renovation of schools and must be approved by voters since they are a future obligation for taxpayers. Schools from all areas of the county are included in the list of new construction, capacity enhancement, and renovation projects.

Get more information about the school bond referendum.
