Seniors: If
you haven't had your senior picture taken yet, the LAST round of makeups is THIS WEEK: Oct. 17, 19, and 20. Check
your mail for a postcard with your appointment time. If you need to know
your appointment time, email Mrs. Travis (ALTravis@fcps.edu),
go ask Mrs. Sanchez in the subschool, or DM the yearbook Twitter @slhs_yearbook.
If
you can't make this last makeup appointment, you will have to call Lifetouch and reschedule on your own.

Senior portraits MUST be taken before Thanksgiving. Any portraits taken after
Thanksgiving are not guaranteed to be printed in the yearbook. Questions? See

The Senior Ad order deadline has been EXTENDED to October 24! Get your
forms in ASAP!! Space is going fast! Turn in forms to Mrs. Travis's mailbox in
the MAIN OFFICE.

Underclass Make-up Pictures: October 19 – it’s
a green day.
Students can
go down to the theatre at any time during the day with a pass from a teacher.
It is primarily for students who were absent on the original picture days. If
students who already had a picture taken want to get a retake, they need to
bring their original picture package with them to give to the photographer. Order

The SLHS Athletic Boosters are
in need of parent and student volunteers!
South Lakes is hosting the Cheerleading District and
Regional tournaments and we are in need of volunteers to work concessions on
the following dates:
- Wed., October 18 (district finals)- PLEASE help –
many of our regular volunteers will be watching their daughter’s play in the field
hockey district semi-final game away!
- Sat., October 21 (regional prelims)
- Sat., October 28 (regional finals)
This is a great opportunity to earn money for our student
athletes. Volunteers get in to the event for free and students are permitted to
work in the concession stand and earn volunteer hours (MYP not NHS hours).

Expunging of HS
Credit Courses taken in middle school (9th graders only)
In accordance with Virginia state regulations, FCPS Regulation 2408
permits parents of students who take a high school credit-bearing course in
middle school to request that the grade be omitted from the student's high
school transcript and the student not earn high school credit for the course.
Guidelines and the procedures for expunging grades for high school courses
taken in middle school, including the required form, can be found at https://www.fcps.edu/academics/grading-and-reporting/secondary/taking-high-school-courses-in-middle-school.
Parents/Guardians must make this request no later than the end of the
first nine weeks of the school year following completion of the course.
The deadline for 9th grade requests to expunge a high school credit-bearing
course from 8th grade is Friday, October 27, 2017,

Sports Updates
Good luck to our chorus students performing tonight and Orchestra next week. We host home football games this week and next. Good luck to Field Hockey who competes tomorrow in the district tournament as well as to our Varsity Cheerleading squad. Congrats to our Cross Country team on a great meet this past weekend!
Students interested in trying out for winter sports need to have all forms turned in and cleared before tryouts, which begin on Nov. 6th. Ideally everything should be submitted to the Athletics Office by Nov. 1st for processing. Stop by or see their webpage if you have questions.

The end of first quarter is approaching quickly on Nov. 3rd. Our students may now move from teacher to teacher with a pass during most Seahawk Seminars so that they can maximize the opportunity to get extra help and/or complete assignments.
