Attendance Reminders
School begins promptly at 8:10 a.m. and ends at 2:55 p.m. Please use the 24/7 Hour Attendance Line - 703-207- 4019. Please visit our website for details. You’ll find information about arriving late, leaving early, and what constitutes an excused absence. The automated system that contacts parents for absences goes out at 10:30am and 4:15pm. If you believe you were notified incorrectly, contact your child’s school counselor for clarification.
Although the FCHS Academy is in the same building, all Academies have their own attendance system and it’s best when you call in an absence that you contact both the base school and Academy.

Screenagers Movie coming to FCHS
The FCHS PTSA, in conjunction with the pyramid school PTA's, will sponsor a free showing of Screenagers for all FCHS and pyramid students and families on Thursday, October 19th at 7:00 in the FCHS auditorium. Admission is free but please register in advance and print your tickets. Screenagers is a documentary for parents and students (10 and older) about the impact of the digital age on children and how to them minimize harmful effects and find balance. The gym snack bar will be open so you can come early and grab dinner before the movie!

FCHS Homecoming Week is here! This year’s theme is HOLLYWOOD! Here is a schedule of what to expect during Homecoming Week:

Pep Rally - Friday, October 20th, 1:45pm - 2:45pm in Paul Weber Stadium (weather permitting). There will be a dance contest, games, the marching band, cheerleaders, introduction of the Homecoming Court, and getting everyone pumped up for the big homecoming football game Friday night!
Homecoming Parade/Tailgate/Game and Halftime - Friday, October 20th beginning at 5:30pm.
Parade participants should meet at 4:45 pm at FCHS Entrance 6&7 to line-up. All participants are expected to adhere to FCPS rules and regulations. The parade starts at 5:30pm and will go through the FCHS neighborhood and will end by 6:10pm.
After the parade there will be a Tailgate Celebration in the outdoor basketball courts with food, games, and music!
The FCHS Homecoming Football game vs. Wakefield HS kicks off at 7:00pm! Admission to the game is $5.00. Halftime will include the Jaguar Marching Band, the Homecoming Court and Class Floats!
The Jaguar Homecoming Parade is all about bringing the community of Falls Church together. We will have our classes make floats, our clubs and organizations make banners or floats, some of our academy classes will have demonstrations, our feeder schools will make banners, and our homecoming court will ride around in Jaguar cars.
Homecoming Dance: Saturday, October 21st 8:00-11:00pm in the Main Gym:
Homecoming Dance tickets are $10 each and will be sold during lunches in the cafeteria starting on Wednesday, October 11th. Dance tickets are pre-sale only and will not be sold at the dance.

Fall Choral Concert
The Falls Church HS Choral Department presents their fall concert, “Tell Me a Story,” on Wednesday, October 18 at 7 p.m. in the Spratley Auditorium. The concert, starring our entire choral department, features music that gives the audience a look into someone’s story. All are welcome, and admission is free! New Fees for High School Students: Extracurricular Activities and AP/IB Tests
As part of FCPS' FY 2018 Approved Budget, FCPS has adopted new fees for high school students: an extracurricular activity fee and Advanced Placement (AP)/International Baccalaureate (IB) test fees. High school students participating in one or more extracurricular school activities will be required to pay a nonrefundable $50 activity fee each year. Extracurricular activities include athletics and clubs for which no academic credit or grade is assessed. Fees will also be charged for students who take the test at the end of Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate courses. FCPS will pay for the first six tests taken by each student over the course of their academic career in FCPS. Learn more.
Fairfax County Youth Survey
Dear Parent or Guardian of Sophomores and Seniors in Social Studies Classes:
Your son/daughter is scheduled to participate in the Fairfax County Youth Survey that will be administered on November 9th, 10th, 13th or 14th. Each student has received an opt-out form through their Social Studies class. You may read more about the survey and download the form from Falls Church High School’s website. If you choose for your son/daughter to NOT participate in the survey, please sign the opt-out form and have your child return it to his/her Social Studies teacher before November 7th.

School Safety and Threat Assessment Training Modules
The Department of Special Services has posted new modules on school safety and threat assessment for parents and students at:

Mental Health and Wellness Conference
Registration is now open for the 4th annual FCPS Mental Health and Wellness Conference, which will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. on Saturday, October 21, 2017. Dr. Scott Brabrand, FCPS Superintendent, will open the conference, and Dr. Jonathan Dalton, from the Center for Anxiety and Behavioral Change, will be the keynote speaker. Participants in this conference, which is free to staff, parents, and community members, will be able to choose from 40 breakout sessions (many offered more than once). Additionally, there will be over 50 resource tables available, representing public and private offices and agencies providing wellness-related services within our schools and community. Expunging of HS Credit Courses taken in middle school (9th grade only)
In accordance with Virginia state regulations, FCPS Regulation 2408 permits parents of students who take a high school credit-bearing course in middle school to request that the grade be omitted from the student's high school transcript and the student not earn high school credit for the course. Since parents/guardians must make this request no later than the end of the first nine weeks of the school year following completion of the course, only families of 9th grade students are eligible to make this request. Click here for guidelines and the procedures for expunging grades for high school courses taken in middle school, including the required form.
The deadline for 9th grade requests to expunge a high school credit-bearing course from 8th grade is Friday, November 3, 2017.

Driver Education Certificate Completion 7:00 –9:30 pm
The state of Virginia requires all 10th grade students and their parent/guardian to attend a 90-minute traffic safety program as part of the classroom driver education instruction. This condition must be met before a student will receive a Classroom Driver Education Certificate of Completion (DEC-1 card).
The dates for this year's presentations are:
- December 13, 2017 (Cafeteria)
- April 18, 2018 (Cafeteria)
- May 9, 2018 (Cafeteria)
All programs will begin PROMPTLY at 7:00 pm. There will be no admittance once the program has begun (after 7:00 pm). You are strongly encouraged to mark your calendar now and plan to attend.
