Digital Citizenship Week

Digital Citizenship Week is coming October 16-20, 2017 and we have a new website full of new ways to engage and educate students and parents and connect teachers to #FCPSdigcitresources!  This year’s theme is Students as Digital Leaders and we want to see how your students are demonstrating digital leadership by asking everyone to share on Twitter using #FCPSdigcit. Many of your favorite materials from the past are still there and we’ve added:

  • Examples of FCPS students demonstrating digital leadership
  • The NEW Digital Citizenship for Parents and Teens online course and marketing materials for your school to promote the course
  • Google’s Be Internet Awesome Resources

Attendance Matters

Did you know that chronic absenteeism (missing 18 or more school days per year) is a primary cause of lower academic achievement? Watch this video in which FCPS Superintendent Scott S. Brabrand talks about the importance of attending school every day

Health Promotion Message

A new school year is a great time for students to create healthy habits throughout the day that can affect performance all year. Encourage students to jump start their day with a healthy breakfast! Eating breakfast gives you more energy and can help boost your grades. Fuel your body with quick and easy foods like oatmeal with fruit or eggs and whole grain toast.

September/October’s Health Promotion message is “Jump Start Your Day With A Healthy Breakfast”.

Health Room Volunteer Training

We welcome volunteers to help provide care for our students and assist with administrative duties. Training is provided by Fairfax County Health Department and is essential for anyone working in the school Health Room. No prior medical experience is necessary.

School Safety and Threat Assessment Training Modules

The Department of Special Services has posted new modules on school safety and threat assessment for parents and students at https://www.fcps.edu/node/34614 .  These modules were developed in collaboration with UVA and help FCPS meet a VA code requirement for broader training on threat assessment.
