On Wednesday, the Silent Drill Team performed at our kick-off ceremony for our community partner, the Coast Guard. This is our 29th year working with the Coast Guard.
Be Present. Be on Time.
Every student needs to be inside Mount Eagle at 8:30am each morning. Why? Because it's important to have time for breakfast, settling into the classroom and to connect with classmates. When students are late to school, it's like walking into a movie after it's started: You're confused and lose time trying to figure out what's going on. If you're a walker, leave your house in time to be here when the doors open at 8:25am. If you're a bus rider, be at the bus stop on time. And if you drive, make sure you're in our driveway by 8:20am.
Students should be in school everyday they are not sick. When they are not here, they miss out on important instruction and can never get it back. We have a thermometer at school and will gladly check your child's temperature if you're not sure your child has a fever. Students who have more than 5 unexcused absences are required to be reported to the FCPS attendance officer. Thank you for working to have make sure your child is present and on time every day.
Sad News in Our Community
This past Thursday, one of our Mount Eagle parents, Ervin Marenco Andasol, 36, died unexpectedly. He was accidentally electrocuted when his ladder touched power lines next the apartments on Fairhaven Avenue. Ervin was the father to 2 of our students. Many have asked how to help the family. At this time, donations to assist with the funeral may be made in our office all next week. We will present them to the family next Friday. Thank you for keeping the Marenco family in your thoughts.
Welcome Ms. Bateson, our new counselor!
Welcome to our new school counselor, Ms. Jill Bateson. She is excited to work with all our students and families at Mount Eagle. Parents may contact her at her email address: jebateson@fcps.edu or by phone at 703.721.2122 to share concerns and/or questions. (We wished Ms. Moore, our former counselor, well as her family re-located to New York recently.)

FRIDAY is Band & Strings Day!
If your Grade 4, 5 or 6 child is taking Band or Strings, be sure to make them practice at home. And make sure your child brings his/her instrument to school every Friday. Take care of the instrument and keep it in a safe place. We look forward to beautiful music!
