Milk
and Cookies is THIS THURSDAY, Sept 28, and we still need more than 200 DOZEN cookies.
Please signup to help here.
For
those of you new to the school, this is a great tradition. Parent volunteers
make hundreds of dozens of cookies and the school donates milk boxes. After
school on September 28, parent volunteers pass out baggies of cookies and milk
to each student at Woodson! In order for
this to be successful, we need LOTS of help. Please sign up to donate
cookies and/or to help distribute on September 28.
It's
a great way to see smiling students :) Any questions, please email Shannon
Murphy at shannon.murphy29@gmail.com.

17. Staff Self-Care –
Signup Today to Help
One of the events the PTSO sponsors is Staff Self-Care Days. These days
are offered for the staff several times a year (3-5) during a 2-hour period,
10:45am-1:45pm. The purpose is to provide a few minutes of “nourishment” for
our staff and teachers who play a very important role in the lives of our kids.
Staff is invited to come down to Cav Hall to enjoy yoga, mindfulness, massage,
therapy dogs, healthy treats & tea, and tips on self-care. This brief
escape is one way that we support Woodson’s Cav Culture of being: Proactive /
Accountable / Empathetic / Respectful / Connected. This is a great way to
support Woodson and its staff with a very manageable time commitment. I just
need a few volunteers to help things run smoothly!
How can you support this initiative?
- “Host” one (or more) of the Self Care Days (2 ½ hour commitment). This is super simple; volunteer for any of the dates (TBD), 10:45am-1:45pm to welcome the staff as they arrive and guide them to the different options for that day (yoga, mindfulness, chair yoga etc).
- Vendor Contact/Healthy Treats: help contact healthy food vendors & invite them to join the Staff Self Care Day.
- Vendor Contact/Wellness Businesses: help contact wellness related businesses (yoga, massage, acupuncture, tai chi, etc.) & invite them to join the Staff Self Care Day.
If you are interested in volunteering, you can sign up here: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0e4ea8ab2da46-ptso
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact: Mary Beth Quick, mbquick@heartandsoulyogava.com
or 4quick@verizon.net.

“Wemail” in the subject and email submissions to woodsonWEMail@woodsonptso.org

Sports Highlights
Precisionette Dance Team News
The Precisionettes along with the Woodson Alum, Community of Solutions,
parents and staff walked at the We Are Woodson Team in Saturday’s Out
of the Darkness Walk (supporting mental wellness and suicide prevention).
This walk has grown over the last 10 year in participants and money raised. It
was amazing to see the police and fire department and the many, many people (and
dogs) support this great organization. The word of the day-HOPE, Your Voice Matters. Click here to see pictures from the event.
Volleyball
On September 19, the Woodson volleyball team faced South County HS. The
freshman team won their first set 25-16, but lost the next 2. The JV team won
in straight sets, as is becoming their custom: 25-14 and 25-22. (Still
undefeated!)
The varsity team took their opponents to 5 sets, winning the first and
fourth: 25-14, 19-25, 23-25, 25-18, 10-15. Sophomore outside hitter Olivia
Guerra worked hard all night scoring an impressive 21 kills. The showstopper
play of the game was a picture perfect "slide" attack by senior
middle hitter Madison Jack with assist by senior setter Sophia Mackin.
Tuesday, September 26 is our first home conference game, and Teachers
Night! Woodson teachers are all invited to come and see their students on
the court.
Varsity Field Hockey
This
week the Lady Cavaliers Varsity Field Hockey team hosted the South County
Stallions. The standout play started when Olivia Rummel passed the ball up to
Bella Hite ~40 yards, Bella showed some fancy stick work and crossed the ball
to Senior Emma Hartzler who did what she does best, score. An easy nomination
for goal of the season. Making a contribution on the offensive side of the
field with some tenacious play on the wings were Dana Meyer and Gwyneth
Durosko. Helping to preserve the shut-out on defense was Rachael Cranston and
Senior Kat Roberts. Time stood still while South County took a penalty stroke
(similar to a soccer penalty kick), but stick-minder Cailin Bownas had it
completely under control and deflected the ball away from goal. Final score put
the Cavaliers over the Stallions, 1-0. Go Cavs!
Boys Cross Country
This past weekend the boys cross country team participated in two
different invitational meets, Oatlands Invitational and Braddock Relays.
Saturday morning kicked off with some of our Woodson boys competing at Oatlands
Invitational, a course famous for its daunting hills. Top finishers in our two
races on this course were Jackson Leech in Varsity A and Ethan Callahan in
Varsity B. At Braddock Relays, Woodson competed in three relays along with many
open races as well. This fun, upbeat night race is a 1.5 mile course that the
that Woodson boys dominated. Congrats to the Boys B relay, Sean Stohlman,
Charlie Stoker, Xavier Berry, Tyler Roberts and Griffin Poole, for their
first-place finish for the Cavaliers! Lastly on Monday, some of our Woodson
boys raced at a district meet at Franconia Park with their number one scorer
being freshman John Hall!
Woodson Athletic Boosters would like to thank its sponsors: Paisano’s Pizza,
Debbie Dogrul Associates, Elevation Burger, JL Tree Service.
