GBE Families,
Welcome
to the 2017-2018 school year! We hope you had a wonderful summer with
family and friends. The staff at GBE is very excited that the school year
is about to start, and everyone has been working very hard to prepare for the
first day of school on Monday, August 28, 2017. We look forward to
working with your child(ren) and are committed to helping every child be
successful as we continue to have high academic and behavior expectations.
Please
encourage your new neighbors to register their school-aged children as soon as
possible. It seems we ‘grow’ a little with each day. A warm
welcome to all of our new families and hope you are settling into our wonderful
community.
We
hope that you are enjoying these last few days of summer! We’re looking
forward to another wonderful year with your children and can’t wait for their
return!

Open
House: Thursday, August 24, 2017
We
invite you and your student to our annual GBE Open House on Thursday, August
24. This event provides the time for students to visit their new
classroom, tour the school and to help ease our students' anticipation of the
first day of school, Monday, August 28, 2017.
Students
may also bring their classroom supplies to the Open House event. This will ‘free hands’ on the bus or walk to
school on the first day of school.
To
assist with parking: the Greenbriar Pool parking lot will be open and
available.

Class lists will be posted for students and parents on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 from 2 p.m. – 7 p.m. on the GBE Office windows. Class lists will then be posted in the Cafeteria on the morning of the Open House and on the first day of school. If you child’s name does not appear on the grade level list, please report to the office.
*Classroom assignment letters will not be mailed to your home but will be posted as indicated above. On the first day of school, staff will be available, if needed, to provide your child’s classroom assignment.
*All classroom assignments are tentative, as our student enrollment numbers may necessitate adjustments after the opening of school.
*FCPS Bus Route information was included in the welcome letter that was mailed to parents this week.
Tdap
reminder for students entering grade 6 this year…
Remember,
if your child is entering into grade 6 for the coming school year please bring
in their Tdap information.
Please
note: Sixth grader students will not be assigned a teacher and cannot begin
school in August 28th without documentation of having had the Tdap booster.

order to be well informed about the changes, please take a few minutes to
review the information posted on the FCPS website related to the school year
calendar.
Be
sure to note student holidays and early release days throughout the year as
these have changed significantly from years past and you will want to plan
accordingly:

Food and Nutrition Services
Breakfast and lunch are both served at Greenbriar East each
school day. Our Food Service Manager will be available during Open House in the
cafeteria if you would like to add money to your child’s lunch account. Breakfast for elementary students is $1.75;
lunch with milk is $3.00; milk is $.60.
You can also add money to your students lunch account using www.myschoolbucks.com

Visitor
Management System
We use a visitor management system in our main office in
order to ensure the safety of our students and staff during the school
day. You will need your photo identification
each time you enter the building during school hours beginning August 28, 2017.

Plan to attend this important event to learn about your child’s
classroom routines and the grade level curriculum. This event is
for Parents Only. Parents will have the opportunity to also
visit with our specialists (PE, Music, Art, Counselors, ESOL, Band, Strings,
etc.) to learn information about their programs.

First Day Packet
Coming home with your child will be a white envelope, titled Greenbriar East Friday Folder, containing numerous forms for you to fill out. Please review the information, sign what is called for and return the paperwork to your child’s teacher. The Friday Folder will be used throughout the school year with your child’s weekly work products, PTA information, and other relevant school communication.
