Dear Rocky Run Students and Families:
Welcome
back to school! The Rocky Run staff is excited to welcome our over 1300
students to school on Monday, August 28, 2017 and is looking
forward to a school year filled with learning and change. We will
continue to focus on making good things happen for our students and in
our school community and sharing good news with you through our weekly News
You Choose email
messages and social media. We will further our work with the FCPSOn pilot
program for Digital Transformation by offering new learning opportunities and
laptop access for every student. We are also looking forward to exciting
learning experiences and the transformation of our school as we begin the
renovation process in the spring of 2018.
We
value your participation and your input. Please feel free to contact the
school main office if we can be of assistance. The
2017-2018 school year promises to be a great one. Thank you for

Rams Rally: Schedule Pickup Events
8th
Grade: Tuesday, August 22, 3-5 PM 7th
Grade: Wednesday, August 23, 3-6 PM
Please check the Rams Rally announcement on the RRMS
website for updates and information. Rocky Run mailed a pre-printed Emergency Care form and a blank Health form to families via US mail during the
first week of August. If all the information on the pre-printed Emergency Care
form is correct, please sign at the bottom and bring it back to Rocky Run
either on a laptop distribution day or during Rams Rally. If you need to make any adjustments on the Emergency Care form, please
write changes in red. Please note that we require proof of residency
(lease or deed) for address change.
For students/parents who cannot attend the Rams Rally:
Please note that
schedules will be available in SIS ParentVue or StudentVue on beginning August
24, 2017. On the first day of school, students will report to their first
period class to turn in required forms. Students will receive an official schedule
with locker information from their first period teacher. If you have any
questions regarding your child’s schedule, please contact your child’s school
counselor.
Transportation Information
Beginning
on August 24, 2017 parents and students can use MapNet via Blackboard FCPS 24-7 Learning to can access bus
stop information and approximate time for pickup and drop off. Students
will see the link for transportation when they log in to their Blackboard FCPS
24-7 Learning accounts. Students will need to be at the bus stop approximately
five to ten minutes before the indicated arrival time of the bus.
Advanced Academics students who live outside of the Rocky Run transportation
boundary
will need to contact the Transportation
Office if their bus stop is not indicated on the current route schedule.
Positivity
Project (P2)
New this school year, Rocky Run MS will be
partnering with The Positivity Project for character education school wide. The
Positivity Project (P2) is a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering
students to build strong relationships and to understand, appreciate, and
exemplify character strengths in us all. The P2 has been successful at
elementary and middle schools around the nation, and we are excited to join the
movement. We will be infusing the P2
message through lessons, videos, and vignettes during Rock time periods

you at our upcoming Back to School Nights.
Back to School
Nights
Back to School Night is an opportunity for
parents/guardians to experience the student schedule and meet the teaching
team. Time will be allocated to visit each class and hear from the
individual teachers. Detailed information regarding Back to School Night
will be sent out once school opens.

PTA
Please plan to join and support our PTA! Our
first PTA meeting of the year will
be held on Thursday, September 14 at
10:30 AM in the Teen Living room.
Joining the PTA is an excellent way to support your child/ren’s
education as well as become involved in the school’s instructional and
extracurricular programs.
