Sports Highlights
Boys Lacrosse
Nearly three months ago, the Cavs began their season losing 11-3
in a scrimmage at Patriot. Just last week Patriot defeated Cavs 12-11 at
Woodson. Heading back to Patriot, the Cavs were determined and confident they
would win. The Cavs trailed 1-0 early but Miller scored twice and Solomon,
Bower, and Yost added goals for 5-1 lead. The Patriots cut lead to 5-3 before
Solomon and Miller each scored twice and Bower added goal for 10-4 lead. Patriots
cut deficit to 10-5 before Phan won face-off and scored with 40 seconds in 3rd
quarter. In 4th, Shin won all 4 faceoffs and defense allowed 3 shots
with Bower, Miller, and Solomon scoring for 14-5 final. The defense of Heisley, Eby, Stedham, Magee, and
Duer limited the high powered Patriot attack to 16 shots. Kim 11 saves. Shin
12 face-off wins. The Cavs play in the State Semis on Tuesday at 7pm at
Colonial Forge.
Crew
WTW Crew
represented Woodson and the state of Virginia well at the SRAA National
Championship Regatta last weekend, as 36 Cavalier rowers and coxswains
qualified to compete in 4 top Varsity Eights events! Men’s 1st Varsity 8+
placed 4th in their heat and 24th overall, the 3rd highest placing Virginia
boat in this category. Women’s 1st Varsity 8+ placed 4th in their heat and 23rd
overall, 4th out of all Virginia entries, capping off a solid season, Woodson's
first in this top competitive event in nearly 10 years. Men’s 2nd Varsity 8+
placed 5th in their heat, only 0.5 seconds shy of qualifying for semi-finals. They
were 14th overall, the highest placing Virginia boat in this category! Women’s
Lightweight 8+ was having the best race of their season and clearly in second
with open water when an unseen log fouled their lane, shearing off their
rudder, forcing them to stop. Ladies
you represented Woodson with amazing grace. Congratulations to our Seniors
rowing in their final WTW regatta: Sierra Boucher, Gwen Cameron, Sara Chan,
Hannah Fisher, Liz Giglia, Gabi Hayes, Brooke Leech, Erica Schneider, Larry
Cai, Miles Knight, Joe Korn, Adrian Michel, Jack Ning, and Trevor von
Christierson! http://www.wtwcrew.org/
